In what was perhaps the best moment from the latest episode of Panthers Blueprint, general manager Dan Morgan was shown displaying quite a bit of shock upon turning in his third-round selection in the 2026 NFL Draft. Well, that feeling isn't exclusive to the team's war room.
That pick ended up being receiver Chris Brazzell II. While the talented Tennessee wideout was considered by some as a late first-round or early second-round prospect, he dropped all the way to Carolina at the 83rd overall spot.
Brazzell, according to the worldwide leader, has now gone on to surprise as a standout performer from offseason workouts. ESPN's NFL Nation tabbed the rookie pass catcher as the Panthers' biggest surprise player thus far:
He may only project as the No. 4 option at wide receiver, but the 6-foot-4 Brazzell could have an opening up the depth chart—especially if 2024 first-rounder Xavier Legette doesn't find his footing. His length, speed and athleticism make him a dangerous weapon down the field, and his presence alone could open up the offense.
Quarterback Bryce Young gave his early impressions of Brazzell at mandatory minicamp.
"You would've thought he'd been in a pro-style system throughout his whole life," Young told reporters a few weeks ago. "He's coming in understanding splits, understanding landmarks, understanding route timing, route tempo, where to be at the right time.
"So I've been super impressed with his professionalism, the ability to do stuff, the ability for everything to translate."
If Young can establish a rhythm with Brazzell right away, it would add a much-needed vertical threat to Carolina's passing game under new offensive coordinator Brad Idzik and take a lot of pressure off of McMillan.

The Panthers got some side-eye from critics when they drafted a wide receiver in the third round, with Tetairoa McMillan, the 2025 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year, already on the roster. But the 6-foot-5 Brazzell, a lengthy playmaker, is making believers out of Carolina fans as an impact player in OTAs and minicamp.
