ESPN's Ben Solak detailed how all 32 NFL teams can "crush" their picks in the 2025 NFL draft. Included among the position groups he discussed for the Indianapolis Colts were tight end, the offensive line, and defensive end.
But also mentioned in Solak's breakdown of the Colts' ideal draft was the quarterback position.
"Don't sleep on the QB3 spot for the Colts, which is currently occupied by 2024 undrafted free agent Jason Bean," Solak wrote. "An Anthony Richardson-Daniel Jones camp battle might bear no fruit at all, leaving the door open for an early Day 3 pick to steal some reps."
In the first two seasons under head coach Shane Steichen, the Colts have rostered three quarterbacks. As Solak mentions, Jason Bean is the only candidate for that roster spot currently on the team, and in an offseason where GM Chris Ballard wants to emphasize competition throughout the roster, the QB3 spot on the depth chart should be included.
But in addition to that, regardless of who wins the starting quarterback job, until shown otherwise by Daniel Jones or Anthony Richardson, there is still going to be uncertainty at this position, and not only in 2025 but potentially beyond as well.
While with any Day 3 pick, the Colts shouldn't bank on that prospect being more than a backup, the prudent move at the game's most important position--and this goes for any team--would be to continuously have a developmental player on the roster. Ultimatley, when there are question marks anywhere, the team should give themselves as many options as possible.
As far as who might be a good fit for the Colts as the potential third quarterback, Solak would mention Ohio State's Will Howard.
"I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if Indianapolis is the team for Will Howard (Ohio State)," Solak added.
