The Miami Dolphins entered this offseason with six cornerbacks hitting free agency, including Jack Jones, Rasul Douglas, Kader Kohou, Ifeatu Melifonwu, Artie Burns, A.J. Green and Kendall Sheffield.
With that, the Dolphins needed to address the position by either re-signing their own guys or bringing in others from outside the building, and they've decided to do the latter.
Through the first two weeks of the new league year, Miami has signed three new cornerbacks, including Darrell Baker, who may start for the team in 2026. However, before he steps on the practice field for the first time with the Dolphins, let's take this as an opportunity to get to know him.
After he was born in Panama, Baker was raised in Georgia and attended Hephzibah High School in Hephzibah, Georgia. In high school, he played football and was a strong track and field athlete, winning the state championship in the long jump.
Baker walked on at Georgia Southern, and after redshirting his freshman year, he began to get real opportunities in 2017 and eventually became a starter for the Eagles. In five collegiate seasons, he played in 54 games and recorded 111 tackles, 17 passes defensed, three interceptions and two forced fumbles.
The Arizona Cardinals signed Baker as an undrafted free agent in 2022, but he failed to make the team out of camp. He eventually landed with the Indianapolis Colts and spent two years there, and then spent the last two years with the Tennessee Titans. In 51 games over four seasons in the NFL, he's recorded 130 tackles, 19 passes defensed and one fumble recovery.
