New England Patriots offensive tackle Caleb Lomu carries a heap of expectations ahead of his rookie season in 2026.

Lomu has the talent and the skill to play both left and right tackle. He figures to see time behind Patriots starting left tackle Will Campbell and right tackle Morgan Moses next season.

Let’s take a look at three key objectives for Lomu for the 2026 season.

Help Patriots reduce sacks total in 2026

The Patriots allowed quarterback Drake Maye to get sacked 47 times last season. That’s far too high. Helping to lower that number while also providing exceptional run-blocking will be paramount to Lomu's success in 2026.

Be a run-blocking force on the outside

TreVeyon Henderson was 89 yards shy of rushing for 1,000 yards in 2025. He excelled at gaining yardage on the ground while cutting to the outside. If Lomu can clear his path when looking to make plays outside the numbers, that will also pay huge dividends for him and the team.

Let no pressures materialize on his watch

Lomu has good footwork and athleticism that caught the Patriots’ eye enough to trade up from the No. 31 overall pick in this year’s draft to No. 28 overall just to obtain his services. He helped Utah’s offensive line in great ways last season. The Patriots need that level of output from him in 2026, with single-digit pressures allowed to not only win games, but also have confidence in him down the line.
