Yesterday’s semifinal between France and Spain, billed as a clash between two of the tournament favorites, was a bit of a letdown in the end. Les Bleus’ good luck finally ran out, as they fell to the Spanish in a rather straightforward 2-0 defeat. Today’s matchup between England and Argentina should be just a bit spicier, given the historical enmity between the two clubs.
For Argentina, today’s match is the penultimate stepping stone to a World Cup repeat, joining Italy (1934, 1938) and Brazil (1958, 1962) as the only nations to achieve that rare feat. Meanwhile, the Three Lions of England are attempting once again to bring football home, adding a 2026 title to their lone World Cup victory in 1966.
