The 2026 World Baseball Classic begins pool play on March 4 and one game will officially mark the start of the tournament that MLB and baseball lovers will be tuned into.
Following the 2023 edition of the WBC, Japan is the nation that every country is after as reigning champions. Shohei Ohtani and the rest of the stacked Japanese roster have their sights set on a fourth WBC title.
However, 19 other countries are set to compete at the 2026 World Baseball Classic, including the United States, Puerto Rico and Dominican Republic. The U.S. and Dominican Republic are the only two other nations to ever win a WBC championship.

The American team featuring stars like Bryce Harper and Aaron Judge will have several MVP favorites battling it out on the diamond. In fact, six of the top 10 odds to win the MVP award are U.S. players.
Team USA and Japan boast the top odds to win the entire tournament, and the two teams are on opposite sides of the bracket. That sets up a potential collision course in the finals.
However, opening night of the 2026 World Baseball Classic will feature two teams looking to make an early impressive during pool play. More action follows in the coming days as pool play heats up early with every nation playing four games before the quarterfinals.
Only one game takes place on March 4 as Australia serves as the home team against Chinese Taipei. Australia’s team is highlighted by 2024 MLB Draft first overall pick Travis Bazzana.
Meanwhile, their Chinese Taipei opponents feature MLB players like Stuart Fairchild and Tsung-Che Cheng.
