The Philadelphia Eagles have the talent to enter 2026 with Super Bowl expectations, but several important questions must be answered before Week 1. This season will be Sean Mannion's first as the most recent offensive coordinator for Jalen Hurts, and an explosive debut could allow the former NFL quarterback to be one-and-done before departing for a head coaching job.
The first is how quickly Jalen Hurts adjusts to Sean Mannion’s offensive structure. The Eagles reshaped the passing game after trading A.J. Brown, and Hurts must build rhythm with new targets while keeping the offense efficient around DeVonta Smith, Saquon Barkley, and Dallas Goedert.
The second question is the wide receiver hierarchy. Smith is the clear No. 1, but Makai Lemon, Hollywood Brown, Dontayvion Wicks, Elijah Moore, and Johnny Wilson must sort out roles in a room that suddenly looks deeper but less defined.
The third question is at the running back position behind All-Pro, Saquon Barkley. Barkley remains the centerpiece, but Tank Bigsby, Will Shipley, Elijah Mitchell, Dameon Pierce, and Carson Steele are competing to become the trusted backup who can protect the offense if Barkley needs rest or misses time.
The fourth question is Tyler Steen’s future. Steen enters the final year of his contract with a chance to solidify the right guard spot for years to come and strengthen his long-term value.
The fifth question is Jalen Carter’s health. Carter is the centerpiece of the defensive front, and Philadelphia needs him to be explosive, conditioned, and available for some big-time matchups.
The sixth question is safety depth. Andrew Mukuba is a key young piece, but Marcus Epps, Michael Carter II, Cooper DeJean, and others will help determine how Vic Fangio aligns the back end.
The seventh question is LB2. Zack Baun is established, Jihaad Campbell is working back from shoulder issues, and Jeremiah Trotter Jr. has a chance to force a larger role.
The eighth question is edge rotation. Nolan Smith Jr., Jonathan Greenard, Jalyx Hunt, Arnold Ebiketie, A.J. Epenesa, Jose Ramirez, Joshua Weru, and Keyshawn James-Newby give the Eagles options, but snaps must be sorted behind Greenard.
The ninth question is returner. Britain Covey, Cooper DeJean, Hollywood Brown, Makai Lemon, and Elijah Moore could factor into the job.
The final question is cornerback depth. Quinyon Mitchell, Riq Woolen, and DeJean headline the group, but Kelee Ringo, Jakorian Bennett, Jonathan Jones, Michael Carter II, Shaun Wade, Mac McWilliams, Ambry Thomas, Tariq Castro-Fields, and Kapena Gushiken make this one of the roster’s most competitive rooms.
