Yet, decades later, Smith is quick to point out that the narrative surrounding his past has long been stripped of critical context. “My situation was totally different. I don’t know what type of backstory these guys are getting from their agents, but mine was completely different because I had nothing to do with it,” Smith explained. “I didn’t understand what was going on at the time at all. I just got thrown into the fire.”
