'I Don't Think This Helps' - Insider Pours Cold Water On Anthony Davis Trade, Hurting Warriors in LeBron James Sweepstakes
The Golden State Warriors reportedly have an ambitious plan in place to bring longtime rival LeBron James to the franchise.
However, NBA insider Anthony Slater has poured cold water on the rumors that the Warriors could pull off one of the key moves they are looking to make to secure James’ signature.
NBA Insider Dampens Warriors’ Hopes of Anthony Davis Trade, Hurting LeBron James Chances
It has been reported that the Warriors are looking to trade for Anthony Davis, who is currently with the Washington Wizards. Some had hoped that the Wizards’ acquisition of Deandre Ayton from the Los Angeles Lakers could make it easier for the Warriors to sign Davis.
But Slater believes that the Ayton trade does not help the Warriors, as the Wizards could easily keep both big men on the roster.
“The Wizards are not signaling that 1+1 equals 2. This doesn’t mean to them that Davis is now available. [Ayton] could play next to Davis, he could replace Davis at times if he misses time with injuries. As far as it goes for the Warriors, this being leverage season, I don’t think this helps the Warriors leverage necessarily. The Wizards could easily still keep Davis which could potentially box the Warriors out of the LeBron James sweepstakes,” Slater said on SportsCenter.
Davis and James won a championship together with the Lakers before the former was traded to the Dallas Mavericks in the blockbuster Luka Dončić trade. Now in Washington, Davis will become extension-eligible next month.
The idea of reuniting United States teammates James and Stephen Curry could be an enticing one for the Warriors. However, it remains to be seen whether they have the draft assets and other resources to make such a deal happen.
James is also attracting interest from the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Miami Heat, the Philadelphia 76ers, and several other teams. The 41-year-old is in no rush to decide on his future.

Rich Paul, James’ agent and close friend, discussed the Warriors speculation on his podcast earlier this week as he weighed the pros and cons of each team interested in signing the NBA legend.
For the Warriors, Paul noted the possibility of playing alongside Curry and Draymond Green. But he refused to dive further into the possibility of James making the switch to his longtime rivals.
