The Philadelphia Flyers are back in the Stanley Cup playoffs after a five-year absence.
The team finished third in the Eastern Conference’s Metropolitan Division with 98 points, 22 more than last season. Philadelphia will face the in-state rival Pittsburgh Penguins in the first round, which begins this weekend.

On Thursday, April 16, the franchise posted a hype video, entitled “Ignite the Orange,” on X to get the Flyers faithful ready for the postseason.
“Uninvited. Unapologetic. Ignited. #IgniteTheOrange,” said the caption.
Former Flyer Brian “Boosh” Boucher narrates the video, which features highlights from the team’s most recent trip to the Stanley Cup Final in 2010.
“You can still feel it,” Boucher said in the voice-over. “The games where every shift mattered. The nights the building shook, a sea of orange. Where Flyers playoff hockey wasn’t just entertainment. It was an experience. It was an identity. You never forget that. You must miss it.”
Boucher played six years for Philadelphia in three different stints. In fact, he was the goaltender for the 2009-10 team, which finished 47-23-12 and defeated the Montreal Canadiens in the Eastern Conference Final. Ultimately, the Flyers fell in six games to the Chicago Blackhawks in the Stanley Cup Final.
The Flyers own two Stanley Cups but haven’t won one since 1975.

Philadelphia fell on hard times soon after the 2010 playoff run. The Flyers advanced past the first round of the playoffs just once since 2012-13.
By the same token, not much was expected of the 2025-26 squad after Philadelphia tied the Boston Bruins for the fewest points in the Eastern Conference in 2024-25.
But first-year head coach Rick Tocchet kept a young team on track. Meanwhile, the contributions of 21-year-old Matvei Michkov (51 points) and 19-year-old Porter Martone (10 points in nine games) added a late-season boost. Travis Konecny and Trevor Zegras led a balanced offensive attack with 68 and 67 points, respectively.
“This team wasn’t supposed to be here yet, and that’s exactly why they are. … Playing the way the city understands, by earning everything. Never asking, only taking,” Boucher said.
Finally, Philadelphia won six of its last seven games and 12 of its final 16 to secure the playoff berth by three points over the Washington Capitals.
