‘Players Have Given Up and So Have I’ – Alexander Bublik Makes Alarming Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner Remark

Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner have dominated Grand Slam tennis over the last three years, combining for 10 of the last 11 Major titles.

Alexander Bublik has explained that the quality of Alcaraz and Sinner leaves opponents with little chance of defeating them, to the point that he feels some players have given up on contending for Grand Slams.

Last month, Alexander Zverev became the first player not named Alcaraz or Sinner to win a Grand Slam since Novak Djokovic at the 2023 US Open. However, the Italian returned to his dominant best at the Wimbledon Championships as he successfully defended his crown by beating Zverev in the final.

Bublik, who is No. 11 on the ATP rankings, has now highlighted the reality of how even top players feel like they have no chance of going toe-to-toe against Sinner and Alcaraz.

“At Grand Slams, where Sinner and Alcaraz feel most comfortable and are perfectly prepared, you don’t really stand a chance. I get the feeling the other players have given up – and so have I, by the way,” Bublik said in an interview with Tennis Magazin.

Bublik further explained that the dominance of Alcaraz and Sinner means that other players have to be satisfied with appearances in the quarterfinals or semifinals.

“That changes your goals. I spoke with my coach recently. A Grand Slam victory is almost out of reach if both of them are in top form. So my goal is the quarterfinals, maybe the semifinals — then I’ll head home happy,” he added.

Asked whether that meant players no longer believed in their ability to win on the ATP Tour, the 29-year-old admitted they must learn to accept and cope with losses and a lack of titles with Alcaraz and Sinner in the draw.

“You have to accept that you’re not Novak Djokovic. You won’t win Grand Slams like Rafael Nadal or Roger Federer. You have to learn to accept defeat and deal with it without letting it affect your performance,” he added.

Bublik has won nine ATP Tour titles, including one this year in Hong Kong. He has also reached the fourth round at the Australian Open and Wimbledon this year. His overall win-loss record for 2026 reads 23-16.

The Kazakhstani player competed at the Swiss Open as the top seed and defending champion this week but fell to a narrow three-set defeat against Quentin Halys.
