Cardinaltown - A Tribute To Fans

I adopted this from John Kenneth Clarke's 1981 poem "Chickentown". Cardinaltown our fricking Sherriff’s fricking mad the fricking fans are getting bad the fricking Eagles fricking swine three points in Vegas on the line no fricking seats no fricking way I can’t afford to fricking pay my...

"Double Bump City" - ASU Rocks Stanford

"Double, double, toil and trouble" - Macbeth The goose bumps finally came back to me like old friends after a decades long absence during overtime in the first Arizona game this year in Wells Fargo Arena. After 35 plus years of following Sun Devil basketball it was an old but still familiar...

Goosebump City - ASU Over UofA

I sat in the nosebleeds with a friend and my back against the wall at Wells Fargo last night. About 4,000 ASU studets turned out in yellow to wave white towels when needed, and they were needed often. The Devils chanted "ASU, ASU, ASU" while Arizona responded with "U of A, U of A, U of A". The...

Thank You Jerry - "Reach For The Stars"

Thank You Jerry Colangelo - "Reach For The Stars" How do you celebrate a 40 year star-studded career in a 25 minute half-time ceremony during an NBA game. You don't. You just give it your best shot and go on faith. That is what a 28 year old budding executive, his wife, and three kids did...

    Suns Fans and the Refs

Close. You put one in Donaghy and save the other for Eddie Rush.

Johnson Wonders If He'll Pitch Again

Great idea on Highway 51! We should call it The Big Unit.

    Suns Fans and the Refs

I heard this joke from the Brooklyn Dodgers show I watched the other night on TV so I stole it: There is a Suns fan with a gun and two bullets locked in a room with Adolf Hitler, Joseph Stalin, and Tim Donaghy. Which two jerks does he shoot?

    "Three can keep a secret...."

Thanks guys. I'm far from any kind of royalty by the way. I started using that handle on a high school sports board years ago. When it asked me for a screen name I thought "how do I describe myself?". Big fat funny bald guy with a mean streak who can play but never was able to win the big...

    "Three can keep a secret...."

I don't think it matters. A lot of people already want Donaghy dead mob or no mob. He has to go into the WPP IF they will take him or at least go into hiding on his own. It's not cheap. So they will ask him "Who can you give up and testify against?" If he has anything of great value that...

Is Stern this evil? Broadcasting rights

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/07/24/AR2007072402631.html Here it is. Wishful thinking at this point? The media consultants are saying that the networks are standing by the NBA as long as it's only one ref. They want it contained because that will minimize...

Is Stern this evil? Broadcasting rights

It looks like the NY Post broke the story on 7/20 after talking to an anonymous law enforcement officer and an anonymous NBA source who knew the FBI report was on Stern's desk. Gee, wonder if he read it right away? It could have been about 24 calendar days after the TV deals were signed...

Is Stern this evil? Broadcasting rights

If the lawyers did their jobs right they put in major language provisions in the contracts for what to do in the event a major betting scandal erupts. That's a big if, however. This could be a big story if it doesn't break in the morning. I see a lot of dramatic scenarios that could happen.

    Stern Press Conference Thread

Thanks E. Here are my thoughts on this debacle: 1. This is not the Black Sox Scandal - Except for Suns fans 2. If Donaghy flips on the mob and cuts a deal he will go into the WPP 3. The FBI is more eager to bust mobsters than other refs 4. There is a brotherhood of refs that he may choose...

    Stern Press Conference Thread

My report: A very shaken and somber David Stern adressed the media today about the ongoing FBI investigation of Referee Tim Donaghy who resigned on July 9th. He said he felt betrayed and that it was the worst thing he has seen happen to the NBA in 40 years as a fan, attorney, and commissioner...
