Glad I'm not a California NFL fan.

That thing is going to implode again within a few years. No one in LA will build the Chargers another stadium. They are going to be tenants in someone else's arena and it'll be like the Cardinals at
ASU. A prescription for financial ruin.

How spoiled are we to now have Mike Bidwill in charge here? A breath of fresh air.

Imagine having to choose between the products of Marc Davis, Stan Kroenke, Jed York, or Dean Spanos.

Can you smell last place cooking? The Raiders lucked out with Derek Carr. That's all, it's not good leadership. You can see what they were without him.

Living in a multi-team mkt (Giants & Jets with Philly south and NE north) I recall dry periods where the Giants played first in Yankee Stadium and Yale Bowl and then in the 2 NJ venues.

Giant fans had to suffer thru airplane fly- over banners and "Good bye Allie" chants. The hangover following the end of the Namath era has been pretty much a constant part of the Jets personna.

Yet both teams seem to be on solid financial and marketing footing if for no other reason than the sheer size of the NYC market.

True, LA is a bit more laid back than NYC, with hiking, surfing, USC and UCLA etc. drawing away support from pro football, but we're still talking about a ginormous market here.

If the heavy hitters are willing to be more methodical and patient (& just let the pure math of the situation prevail over the years) the LA market - independent of W's & L's - will grow into a powerhouse.

I'm totally against the Chargers move, but I think there's a big difference between the Chargers as a tenant in a new $2b NFL stadium and the Cards sharing a college stadium that is only getting renovated again now. The Jets have been a tenant in the Giants' two stadiums for over three decades. Of course, the Jets also had an established fan base in the NYC area when they moved (though fans on Long Island sure didn't like the move).

Schaudenfreude is good for a while, but it usually runs out at some point. St. Louis fans got to watch the Bidwills suffer for two decades in AZ but the Cards eventually went to the SB. LA Rams fans never saw a SB win but had to watch the Rams get one in St. Louis within a few years. Expos fans said baseball had failed twice in DC, but unfortunately they have to concede that it works now. Etc.

What's clear, though, is that both the Rams and Chargers need a young star to capture the kids. A young Brady or an Odell. It'll be entertaining for the rest of us to see them taking big swings in the draft.

There's so many factors in California. Just trying to get approval to build a stadium on land is difficult for environmental reasons.

So it's very hard to get all that lined up and get the financing.
