No matter what you think of the Rockets, Artest always makes his team tougher in the first year.

is Donte Greene that good?

Reports are that the Kings get Donte and a first along with Bobby Jackson. The Rockets get to rent Artest for a year. If the Rockets DON'T make a deep run into the playoffs, this might rank with the Celtics trade of JJ for Rodny Rogers and Tony Delk. Short term it worked, but long term was a horrible trade for Boston.

Should of been us but oh well.... the M. Barnes signing was solid.
The backup PG situation is frustrating.
As for the ROCKETS like some others said, if T-Mac & "Yeow!" can stay healthy i like Houston to really clamp down on teams defensively come playoff time. They were already solid on that end. Dangerous team.

No kidding, the rockets will be an awesome defensive team. Barring an injury to yao/tmac, I see afterburn being left all over the western conference. Battier/artest/hayes/landry/scola/alston/head add in yao and tmac, this could be the best defensive team in the NBA, and 9 deep with quality. Aaron Brooks, perhaps the 10th man, would be great as a backup PG for nash. Some teams just have depth that the suns have never sniffed.

There is one thing I'm sure about: This trade definitely puts a lot more pressure on Kerr to improve our roster. Whether it's a trade or FA signing, we need to get better.

You can pick out any player you want for the veteran minimum. :)

At that budget, I would be happy if we could grab Jwill. He is probably the only PG left in FA market who can seriously improve the depth of our roster.

Besides, we all know the chance for both Diaw and Barbosa to stay is not high. Kerr has done a good job so far this summer. I'm eager to see if he has something else to pull out of his hat.

Despite Yao's comments, Artest seems happy about future
By JONATHAN FEIGEN Copyright 2008 Houston Chronicle

It did not take long for the Rockets to get their first taste of the enigmatic, complicated and often contradictory nature of Ron Artest.
Artest, who will be dealt to the Rockets on Aug. 14 in a trade completed Tuesday afternoon, told the Sacramento Bee he was excited about going to the Rockets but would join them only if they are committed to him. Much of Artest’s hesitance was an apparent reaction to Yao Ming’s wariness of the trade, expressed Wednesday on the Chronicle’s Web site.
“We’ve still got to make sure there’s still a commitment,” Artest told the Bee. “That’s the main thing. When I speak to the powers-that-be of the Houston Rockets organization, we’re going to find out how much they really want me there.”
Artest is in the last season of a contract worth $7.4 million, but Rockets officials cannot speak to him until the trade is complete.
There do not, however, seem to be any roadblocks to completing the deal once Donté Green, the prospect whom the Kings sought for Artest, is eligible to be traded Aug. 14. An NBA executive with knowledge of the talks said Wednesday: “The deal is happening.”
Yao was generally positive about the trade but concerned about team chemistry.
“For some reason, I like (Artest),” Yao said. “Because in the games we play against him, I hate him.

there are some things you shouldn't be proud of.

in a brief summary, here's what artests says:

"being ghetto, its a culture, thats who i am. i have not matured, im still a kid who's keeping it real".

now i'm glad we didnt get this headcase.

I just read this story and had to laugh. Wow. So glad we didn't get this mess.

"If you go back to the brawl (against fans during a 2005 game against the Pistons), that's a culture issue right there," Artest said, the newspaper reported. "Somebody was disrespecting me, so he's got to understand where I'm coming from. People that know me know that Ron Artest never changed."

OMG. He has no remorse. WTF!

Some of you guys aren't very ghetto I guess. I know of many people who have gone after people for less. Hell, brawls start in stands from a war of words. Throwing a drink at someone is worse. No way in hell somebody throws a drink at me, and at minimum I don't get in their face.

I guess I'm just as ghetto as Artest is.

Most people would go crazy if a drink was thrown at them but most people are not NBA players making millions. A little restraint would have saved him a lotta trouble.

The amount of money you make, shouldn't correlate with how much abuse you have to put up with.

Those who purport to be "ghetto" don't have the market cornered on irrational behavior. I've seen plenty of rednecks start swinging just because they got looked at funny. Dealing with disrespect can be a measure of common sense and intelligence. If you can't walk away, you've got issues.

And referring to yourself in the third person is a red flag. One in a long series of red flags.

I think it is funny to refer to myself in the 3rd person on occasion. I guess I've got issues too.

"Abuse"? Someone should throw a cup of perspective on you.

Yes abuse. What you call it? Do you realize that they actually commited a crime throwing their beer at Artest?

so you dont make millions like artest.
then you dont know what you'd do if you were in his shoes during the infamous brawl.

but for now, keep it real... i guess.

Ah yes. I don't make a million dollars so I can't relate. Good one.

I think actual "ghetto" denizens have much worse abuses and indignities suffered upon them. I don't think it's very "ghetto" to call the cops when someone throws beer on you.

I don't know of many people at all that would call the cops when someone throws a beer on them. Not sure where you are going here.

I can understand Artest's reaction. I think a lot of other people can to.

Assume someone threw a drink at you at the bar. Are you going to walk away? Call the cops? Confront them? What?

100% Agree.

Now and days the basketball kids with talent are spotted so early on that they grow up in a bubble and are protected from the true ghetto stuff real impoverished Americans deal with. I question the legitimacy of any NBA player calling themselves "ghetto" and "keeping it real" today.
