[email protected] the banner ad when I opened this thread:

    "Drill it: Tell Obama to...."

I caught it out of the corner of my eye as I was clicking the back button, but it clearly had something to do with domestic drilling initiatives....

I think much of the recent increases are driven by the speculative investing in oil in the stock market.

Right now, as this is being posted oil is at $93.04/ barrel.

    http://www.bloomberg.com/energy/

The lowest it has been this year. Down $15 +/- in the last 2 weeks. Futures for refined gas is at 2.94/gal.

My thoughts are oil glut, lower demand, but refineries are being shut down.

BTW, South Florida gas is down $0.25 per gallon during this period. About $3.70 on average.

I can still hear the cries years ago when Bush & Cheney were not so secretly "fixing" oil prices for their own gain. Damn those guys are good! ;)

Did Cali switch to "summer fuel" blends to necessitate the spike?

Suggesting that continuing high oil prices is evidence that Bush/Cheney did not rig the market ignores reality. The broader party initiatives have been de-regulation of financial markets. Bush/Cheney were complicit to those ends. Bush/Cheney still met with energy companies in the early days of their administration - meetings that are STILL secret because of "national security". The CFMA, the repeal of Glass-Steagall, the weakening of the CFTC and the FTC, the lowering of reserve requirements, the removal of possession requirements - all these things, which Bush/Cheney were party to - result in what we are dealing with now.

So, you are right to say that it is the "right idea", but Bush/Cheney are not the "wrong targets". They are simply not the only targets.

    Rinse... Repeat... Rinse... Repeat....

I think i've demonstrated my moderate political/party/social shifts across the board, however, it's laughable to see these sort of posts continue to remain void of any mention of the current administration... Sure, you can "suggest" that Bush/Cheney are not the "only" targets, but, can you actually bring yourself to the point of placing, at minimum, an inquisitive eye on team Obama??

I believe both politcal parties are duplicent in what in what is basically outright theft from the American people.

It started with Bush, continued with Obama, and will continue with whomever takes over next. Both sides ignore all evidence of what should be free enterprise and instead willfully point the finger at the other side, causing stasis by gridlock.

When I say wrong targets, the real target would be Congress IMO.

Actually no I don't upon thinking about it. Sorry that is a poor statement.

For me, it really started when I was a kid with Carter administration. I remember I lived in Bakersfield California and they were dumping huge amounts of oil during the oil crisis despite everyone being told we were short supplied.

It probably goes back even farther but both sides are dirty.
