NEED TO KNOW
- Cheyenne Parker-Tyrus is expected to return for the Las Vegas Aces on Tuesday night, just two months after giving birth
- The former WNBA All-Star gave birth to her son Yoshua on July 1
- "I always have the mindset that I’m built differently," the 11-year WNBA veteran told The Associated Press last week
They say a mother never rests, but WNBA star Cheyenne Parker-Tyus is taking that to a whole new level.
Just two months after giving birth to her second child, the Las Vegas Aces announced the 33-year-old star forward is expected to play in the team’s Tuesday night game against the Chicago Sky.
Parker-Tyus gave birth to baby Yoshua on July 1, according to The Associated Press, who first reported on her remarkably quick turnaround from pregnancy to preparing for another season of basketball.
“I did the research to see how quickly people came back,” Parker-Tyus told the AP earlier this month after laying out her plan to return by her team's final home game on Tuesday night. “Can it be done?, I always have the mindset that I’m built differently.”
The veteran forward has played 11 seasons in the WNBA and signed with the Aces during the offseason knowing she was pregnant and would likely miss most of, if not the entire, 2025 season. But instead, the Queens, New York native is reportedly ready to return to the court quicker than the team expected.

Parker-Tyrus, who gave birth to her first daughter Naomi in 2021, told the AP last week that she was extremely nervous when she had a call with the Aces this offseason to discuss joining the team, during which she knew she would have to disclose her pregnancy. The Aces in particular have made headlines in recent years amid an ongoing lawsuit from Dearica Hamby, who alleged the team mistreated her because she became pregnant while with the team.
“I was sweating bullets,” Parker-Tyrus told the AP. “I’ve played in this league for a long time and knew I just had to be honest and up front and they appreciated that. I just was so scared and nervous that they would just go ‘we’ll reach out next year or something.”
But the team’s response surprised Parker-Tyrus, who is friends with Hamby. The expecting mother broke down in tears during the call, according to Aces head coach Becky Hammon, who said she told the WNBA free agent that the team still wanted her.
“I know she was nervous as she broke down in tears. We were all crying. It was actually a pretty cool moment. At the end of the day, bringing a baby into the world that’s amazing,” Hammon told the AP. “We just said, ‘we’ll wait for you.’ We look at her as a long term piece. It wasn’t just for this year. Like, we want we want to build that relationship with her, and give her an environment that she can really flourish in.”
