If you're reading this, you have a better chance of getting drafted in the fourth round than Shedeur Sanders does, apparently.
Night Two of the 2025 NFL draft featured genuinely an unprecedented slide, as the Colorado quarterback that was expected to go no later than No. 21 in the draft has fallen to the fourth round. And while that was the running thread through the night, there was a lot happening around the Sanders slide.
That said, here are the biggest winners and losers from the second and third rounds of the NFL draft.
The Browns may be having the best draft out of any team in the NFL. They had two top 10 picks in the second round after the trade with the Jacksonville Jaguars landed them the No. 36 overall pick, as well as their own No. 33 pick. They used those picks on UCLA linebacker Carson Schwesinger and Ohio State running back Quinshon Judkins. In the third round, they drafted who one of the top pass-catchers and playmakers in the draft in Harold Fannin Jr from Bowling Green State. Overall, the Browns added the nation's top tackler and top receiver on Night Two - you can't do much better than that.
Maybe I'm still annoyed at the Chargers drafting a running back in the first round when Matthew Golden was right there for the taking and went to the Green Bay Packers with the very next pick. Even though they took wide receiver Tre Harris in round two, there were others available I liked more. Kyle Williams, Jaylin Noel, and Elic Ayonamor all would have made more sense to me.
If the Browns have had the best draft, the Patriots have had the second-best draft. They took the other Ohio State running back, TreVeyon Henderson, in the second round, and followed that up by taking Washington State wide receiver Kyle Williams and traded with the Kansas City Chiefs for the no. 95 pick to take center Jared Wilson out of Georgia. I'll say this right now - the New England Patriots are the second-best team in the AFC East and they are going to be a playoff team in 2025.
In a division where the other three teams have had strong drafts, the Bengals have just been... meh. Going back to the first round, taking a cornerback like Jahdae Barron would have been far more impactful than Shemar Stewart. They took linebacker Demetrius Knight with the 49th overall pick when Trey Amos, Benjamin Morrison, Mike Green, and Xavier Watts were still on the board and would have all been better picks. Their whole draft could have just been done a lot differently and far better than what they've put together.
I know, I'm surprised, too. This is like finding out that the dumb kid in high school is really good at woodshop. The Jets had a very good second night of the draft. Kicking things off with Mason Taylor at tight end filled a big need offensively, and they got a nice third-round steal by taking cornerback Azareye'h Thomas. They went two-for-two with their picks and filled positions of need with two of the best players available when they were on the clock - job well done.
So... Tyler Shough, huh?
The Saints seem to be attempting to replace Derek Carr with the more handsome, CW drama-starring actor version of Derek Carr. They also reached for defensive tackle Vernon Broughton, who was a consensus Day Three player - the Saints took him 71st overall. This team didn't excite me entering the draft, and they excite me even less now.
