Ohio State Buckeyes quarterback Will Howard and edge rusher Jack Sawyer will continue being teammates in the NFL. The Pittsburgh Steelers selected both players on Day 3 of the 2025 NFL Draft.

But Howard will also have another former college teammate in Pittsburgh, and he will be in the quarterback room with him -- Skylar Thompson.

During his introductory press conference with the Steelers on Saturday, Howard addressed how excited he is to be reuniting with Thompson.

"Absolutely this football world is crazy. I can't wait to get back with my guy [Skylar]. Me and him were so close, and he was such a great mentor for me at my first year as a Kansas State," said Howard.

Howard and Thompson played two seasons together with the Kansas State Wildcats from 2020-21. During that time, Howard sat behind Thompson, who started for Kansas State.

Thompson then became a seventh-round pick for the Miami Dolphins in 2022.

After Thompson's departure, Howard split opportunities behind center with Adrian Martinez during 2022. Howard then became the Kansas State starter in 2023 and transferred to Ohio State for the 2024 campaign.

This offseason, the Steelers added both Howard and Thompson to their roster. First, they signed Thompson to a reserve/futures contract in January.

The Steelers drafted Howard at No. 185 overall in the sixth round on Saturday.

Howard and Thompson will enter the Steelers offseason program working behind veteran Mason Rudolph. The Steelers are also expected to sign 4-time MVP signal-caller Aaron Rodgers.

If the Steelers sign Rodgers, Thompson isn't guaranteed to remain on Pittsburgh's roster. But the two quarterbacks will likely work together at least through the summer.

Thompson is 1-2 as an NFL starter in his career. The 27-year-old also gained NFL playoff experience with a postseason start as a rookie in January 2023.
