Why Eagles Avoided Signing Jaire Alexander originally appeared on Athlon Sports.

Jaire Alexander signed a one-year deal with the Baltimore Ravens Wednesday afternoon. It culminated a few weeks on the open market for the former Green Bay Packers Pro Bowler.

With a contract worth just $6 million max, many Philadelphia Eagle fans were perplexed as to why the team chose to ignore the veteran corner on the open market.

In reality, the Eagles were always going to largely ignore Alexander after his release.

Philadelphia is looking to save as much money as possible for the 2026 offseason, when young stars like Jalen Carter and Nolan Smith are in line for extensions. Even a small amount of $6 million could be seen as cap-room help that won't be able to be pushed to the following year.

Alexander also goes against what Philadelphia has tried to stress in recent years.

Yes …

The Pro Bowl cornerback has been one of the best players going when healthy.

The tricky part is that Alexander hasn't been healthy.

He has played in just 14 games over the last two seasons and under seven in three of the last four years. Durability concerns can be a nightmare.

Just ask Green Bay.

When you add both cost and durability issues to the equation, it isn't surprising that the Eagles opted against trying to sign Alexander.

Only time will tell if they made the right call with that decision. His low cost won't be something Philadelphia sports fans will want to ignore if their cornerback situation takes a turn for the worst.
