And then they'll bring up Christian Walker, play him for a game, let him pinch-hit twice a week and send him back down for not producing.

I wonder if ARZ could have gotten Jose Martinez from STL instead of Kelly. Supposedly STL is trying to deal him now that they have Goldschmidt. He would have been a nice replacement at 1B.

Lamb/Walker platoon

This makes the most sense.

That would be my guess. either way, we are losing defensively

Following Goldy, we are going to lose defensively no matter who plays 1B. As long as he can pick throws out of the dirt and be in the right position for a cutoff throw from RF, we'll be OK until we become a contender.

Looking at it from a psychological point of view (Lamb and Walker), a platoon should work. As a lefty hitter, Lamb would get the bulk of the starts, to which he is accustomed. And Walker would get more than call ups to sit on the bench and pinch hit once in a while, then be sent back down.

Both would have the benefit of starting primarily in the appropriate righty/lefty matchups. And perhaps be more in a groove when they are called upon to pinch hit when not starting.

Also, if one is injured, the other is ready to start. And maybe Lamb's typical second half swoons won't repeat.

And in a real pinch, Lamb would be able to step in at 3B and Walker in RF. Although that pinch would hopefully not come.

Any bets as to whether this team finishes better than the 51-111 team?
