Kyler Murray's future with the Arizona Cardinals could be in flux, both in the short and long term.
A mid-foot injury suffered in Week 5 forced the 2019 No. 1 overall pick out of the Cardinals' lineup, with veteran backup Jacoby Brissett stepping in to replace him. Murray continued to remain sidelined on a week-to-week basis for a handful of games, with Brissett giving the offense a slight bump.
But things changed last week, when Murray landed on injured reserve, ruling him out for at least four additional games.
Here's the latest on Murray's potential recovery timeline:
Murray's placement on injured reserve on Nov. 5 means he will be out at least through Week 13. He is set to miss contests against the San Francisco 49ers, Jacksonville Jaguars and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The earliest Murray could return would be in Week 14, for a showdown with the Los Angeles Rams.
Cardinals coach Jonathan Gannon said the decision to place Murray on injured reserve was a collaborative one made with the input of the quarterback and his representatives.
"He's fully committed," Gannon said last week. "Right now, what he's going to concentrate on is getting healthy. He's not healthy enough to play. He needs to get healthy so he can get back to playing football."
Slovis is the only other quarterback behind Brissett on the active roster. After spending time on the Indianapolis Colts and Houston Texans' practice squad last year, the Pitt product made his NFL debut last week in relief of Brissett, with his lone pass falling incomplete in a 44-22 loss to the Seattle Seahawks.
