True that JB will be a FA after this season. We will still have opportunity to re-sign him should he play lights out or if Beck and/or GM goes down/don't perform so the eval of JB is still be a needed exercise.

I was considering the options surrounding the QB position and went off topic and did not stick strictly to the main question as to when to start Beck. Of course, since when has that been a sin on this forum? LOL. Take a look at some of the other comments. Plenty of posters are steering off the pavement with their comments.

As to your other point, agree that our coaching staff already has a good idea as to where Beck fits in. It is possible that they have already decided EVEN without seeing him in an actual game. They may have a trade candidate in their cross hairs (say Mac Jones with SF) and do not need to wait until the end of the year. Need to consider all options hence Question 6. If Beck is already off the table, would need to do that eval. For that, we would not need to see Beck play or wait until the off-season.

(How did you 'jump in' with your avatar buds Larry and Curley?)

Jacoby Brissett is Jeff Blake 2.0 to me. Small sample as a starter who was primarily a back up and went 3-10 at age 33 (Brissett's age too) for us. We drafted a QB in the 3rd round (previous year) who started the final 3 games and ended up being our starter the next year. That off season we passed on a QB (Phillip Rivers) and instead took Larry with the 3rd pick. Josh went 6-7 as the starter the following year, the best year of his unexpectedly long career. There was also a Manning in that draft. I'd rather get the Beck experiment over with sooner than later and not use the "Beck showed signs, so we traded back to build the trenches" crap again from 3 meaningless starts in late December.

Fun fact about Josh, he is 1 of 17 QBs to complete a pass at age 40 or older.
Jeff Blake had a cannon.

He doesn’t. If he did, he would be starting.
Impossible for you to know- no one does. Let me tell you some things you do know about Jacobi
- Jacobi averaged about 5 yards per pass last game, ranking him 30th for QBs. He is one of the worst if not the worst qb right now in passing plays >20 yards
- he has won 2 games in 15 starts
- the majority of his “stats” that people tout have come in 4th quarter garbage time
- he has no future with this franchise, he is out after this year.
- last 2 games he had been playing spooked, the Jacobi who was willing to stand tall in the pocket and take a shot down field even if it meant getting hit has been MIA

I’m not guaranteeing that beck comes in here and starts lighting it up - but here’s one thing I can guarantee- there are more than 30 quarterbacks of which I think beck is included that can pass for 5 yards per play, run a play action bootleg, and hand the ball off to Love. Beck gives you your Jacobi minimum that you guys love and think is “winning football” in addition to maybe some upside

IMO, 5 yd. passes and 5 yd. runs is the plan, ball control and long drives. This keeps their offense off the field and wears down their defense. Our defense is 25% stop and 75% letting them score. So, we need to control time of possession.
If MHJ wants some catches I think he needs some routes over the middle but even after bulking up, he tends to short arm the catches going over the middle.

NFL coaches want to win games. NFL players want to win games. No coach or player is calling for Beck to start which means my position of "Beck has not shown more the Brissett" is more likely valid than your "Beck is better but no one wants to play him".
