It’s about reps and securing the #1 pick
If Jacoby continues to be bad, that will happen on its own.

I don’t really understand the logic of Jacoby is so bad he much be benched to protect our draft position.

Miami will likely have the #1 pick anyway.

I’m ready. A week full of reps, then beating the Giants is gonna give him a ton of confidence.

He he starts against the Giants we will lose.

He had 14 preseason passing attempts against current CrossFit trainers and has had fewer than 100 practice reps since. What do you think is going to happen?
This is such an arrogant take. How can you possibly know what Beck will or won’t do for this offense? We know what JB will do. Which is essentially put up some meaningless stats once the game is out of hand. The only stat that matters is W’s and unfortunately he does not lead this team to many.

Because Beck is a rookie third-round pick who had very little practice experience and only played in one preseason game?

It’s not hard to work out that Carson Beck probably isn’t the immaculately conceived QB who will excel from the jump.

Nothing has changed since the team determined that Jacoby Brissett gives us the best chance to win. You’re advocating for, in all likelihood, 14 weeks of terrible defense + terrible offense. And you can’t even make a positive argument for Beck.

“Just different terrible” doesn’t move the needle for me.

There is absolutely zero point to giving Minshew any burn once they bench Jacoby. None. At that point, the season is all about the future and you need to see what Beck has and give him enough time to get whiplash from his first couple starts and then see if he’s able to figure the game out in Q4.

Just dumping him into Q4 of the season is completely pointless. The team will have given up by then, guys will start playing for paychecks above all else (if they’re even still playing and not shelving themselves on IR) and he’ll have almost zero time to adjust to the NFL game and see if he’s got any goods.

While I agree in theory, I am trying to be realistic. I don't believe Beck starts before Minshew does.

Nevermind, JJ just traded to the Giants

So now they will start him against us and he'll beat us just to spite me.

Google is saying it's not official there's some reports from sources I think Tom Pelissero is the guy reporting it but it's probably going to happen.

No way he starts that quick I’m betting it’s Jameis

Absolutely not. LaFluer and the players are thinking about winning the next game and ultimately going to the playoffs. We can think they have zero shot at it all we want. But these are professional athletes and they are not going to tank after just three games. They are thinking "Beat the Giants, then we are 2-2 and in the thick of it all."

I was joking he's been in Minnesota for close to 3 years and still sucks he's not going to learn the Giants playbook quick enough to play against us.

Ironic that those of us who said Kyler was going to start, and JJ would end up NOT the backup but 3 and probably get traded ended up being right. Tells you how lightly regarded JJ is it took an injury for him to get traded, 23 year old QB and nobody wanted him

Yep I agree with everyone that says I don't want to see Minshew, unless it's an in game injury situation. There's no point playing him, but yeah I don't want to bench JB for Beck if we're not totally eliminated.

If we beat the giants we're 2-2, then the schedule gets really bad though Detroit, Rams, Broncos, Cowboys, Seahawks, Rams again, Chiefs. After the Giants the next stretch where we will be given even a chance to win is probably 3 games in a row Jets, Saints and Raiders.

So it's fairly likely there's going to be a point in there where if we want to make the change we can.

Preach

Most on this board never saw him as with most NFL QBs.

Dude was wildly inconsistent and missed open guys regularly.

This has a lot of merit IMO. If you're going to play him why not play him with the best players we got, while they're still motivated to win. If you wait until it's the Business decision time of the season, what chance does he have to show what he's got

What do you expect to learn about the Cards or Carson Beck in 14 games that you won’t learn in six?

It can’t be that you believe he gives us a better chance to win.
Why would you want to lose 7-8 more games before you have an answer?

100%. Either start Jacoby in another wasted season or trade Minshew.

I’d like to know the genesis of the Minshew signing. Did LeFleur want to roll with Minshew and draft a QB once Garoppolo want interested? Or was Brissett kinda forced on him… LeFleur obviously said all the right things publicly.
I honestly don't mind the Minshew signing if you weren't going to sign Jacoby to an extension. It was about hedging your bets.

Once you signed Jacoby and already had drafted Beck, it was meaningless.
