The US men's national team closes the group stage at the CONCACAF Gold Cup when it takes on Haiti in a game that means a great deal to Haiti but little to the US.
America has all but clinched Group D after wins against Saudi Arabia and Trinidad and Tobago have put it at a plus-6 goal differential. Assuming they don't get routed by a Haiti team that needs a win and some help, the USMNT will enter the knockout stage against the loser of the Mexico-Costa Rica match that happens later Sunday.
The United States plays its final group-stage game, against Haiti, at 5 p.m. Mountain/6 p.m. Central on Sunday, June 22 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
The 5 p.m. MT/6 p.m. CT match between the United States and Haiti will be televised on FOX in English and on TUDN and ViXin Spanish.
America leads its group with six points and almost certainly will win Group D regardless of how this match ends.
They have not technically clinched that, as a loss to Haiti and a Saudi Arabia win against Trinidad and Tobago would leave the teams tied and the tiebreaker would be goal differential. The US enters this match +6 while Saudi Arabia is level, so barring something extraordinary, America will advance as the Group D winner.
That would give them a quarterfinal match likely against the Mexico-Costa Rica loser.
This site predicts the US to win 3-2.
It writes: "Given they are already through to the last eight, we expect many American starters will get a rest, but even their B team should be more than enough to handle a Haitian side that are not nearly as deep as the Yanks."
It writes: "The depth the USMNT has at center back on the Gold Cup roster should lead to another clean sheet, even if the Haitians throw everything but the kitchen sink at the U.S. in terms of trying to get a goal. At the same time, Haiti can’t afford to sit deep and crowd the middle of the field the way Saudi Arabia did. That should make it a little easier for the U.S. to create scoring chances, which should lead to multiple goals for the USMNT."
The US is heavily favored to win, according to odds on BetMGM.com.
