Although the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles are three years away, details about the games — from host venues to dates — have already been unveiled.
Los Angeles won the bid to host the games in 2017. It’s poised to make history by being a three-time Summer Olympic host, becoming the third city to do so, Mayor Karen Bass said in a statement earlier this year. Los Angeles previously hosted the games in 1932 and in 1984.
LA28 serves as the organizer for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games, which have a budget of $6.9 billion, according to city documents reported by CNBC. Funding for the games comes from “corporate partners, licensing agreements, hospitality and ticketing programs and a significant contribution from the International Olympic Committee,” according to LA28.
Also involved in realizing the games is the Trump administration, or at least based on recent actions that signal the president’s interest in having a say. In early August, President Donald Trump announced he’d chair a newly established task force for the summer games. Among what the task force is charged with is coordinating federal planning related to security and transportation and assisting in visas for all the athletes and coaches coming to America.
That’s in addition to him saying he’d be willing to use the National Guard or military to keep the Olympics safe, USA TODAY reported. Trump previously took control of the National Guard when protests over federal immigration raids broke out in Los Angeles, a move that went to the courts.

The opening ceremony for the Olympics will be held at the SoFi Stadium in Inglewood and the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum in “a dual-venue celebration,” Bass announced in May. The coliseum will make history as the first venue in history to host three Olympic games, according to Bass. The closing ceremony will be held at the coliseum.
As for the Paralympics, the opening ceremony will be held at the SoFi Stadium while the closing ceremony will be held at the coliseum.
Details about who will perform at the opening ceremony have not been announced. Billie Eilish, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Snoop Dogg were among the performers part of the LA28 Handover Ceremony when the 2024 Paris Olympic Games came to a close. Lady Gaga was among the performers for the opening ceremony of the Olympics in Paris.
Numerous cities in Los Angeles County will host events for the 2028 Olympic Games, including Los Angeles, Inglewood, Long Beach, Carson, Anaheim, Pomona, Pasadena, Arcadia, Encino, and South El Monte. Among the numerous venues and places hosting include the Dodger Stadium (fittingly for baseball); the Honda Center in Anaheim; the Pomona Fairgrounds; Alamitos Beach in Long Beach; the Rose Bowl in Pasadena; and the Sepulveda Basin Recreation Area.
The complete list of venues and locations can be found at la28.org. However, considering the 2028 Olympic Games are still three years away, it’s possible that there may be venue changes. As it is, organizers are proposing to move the diving competition from Exposition Park in Los Angeles to the Rose Bowl Aquatics Center in Pasadena.
The winter games will be held in Italy from Feb. 6-22, 2026, including in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo. The Paralympics will be held just weeks later, from March 6-15, 2026.
