Pay him to go away if you have to. Too many good young arms to block with a horrendous starter like Madbum.
True, and he has officially earned his nickname. What would it take to pay him to go away?

They’ve cut bait with highly paid players before; Ortiz, Byrnes, Tomas. Tomas was still owed $20m when DFA’d but Madbum has two years remaining. I’m guessing a trade with AZ supplying the majority of cash.

I hope we go with the young guys and not put ourselves in that position again.

Include a significant amount of money to trade him for a prospect, so in essence you are trading him for a kid who could make an impact in the future. Turn the money to get rid of him into something that can build for the future. Regardless, they are going to pay to remove him from this team.

He is owed $37 million over the next two years. If the Dbacks eat $20 million, I think they can dump him in a trade.

At least $20M, if they include more the quality of prospect should increase. Paying $20M+ for a good prospect is better than paying him $37M to go away. He does have hitting ability so its not like he is totally useless.

In the old days of baseball, starters used to go to the bull pen to finish out their careers, or they retired.

True, but they weren't making these bucks.

I would encourage him to continue to ride bulls at rodeos as a 33 year old pitcher and let nature take it's course.

I say that with some amount of snark but I literally can't believe that an athlete that relies on his arm thinks that riding a pissed off two ton animal with one arm is a great idea.

Since that came out in 2020 he has been trash. ERA before the secret bull riding crap: About 3. ERA each year after 6.48, 4.67, 4.88

You can ride off into the sunset MadBum

It makes me sick to see them throw him out there every 5th day - a complete waste of assets.

So one says we can save 8 million and the other 12 million. Say we save 10 million of his 37 million contract. What do we do?
