Winning in the NFL is about defense, especially in the playoffs when the refs really let them play.

Otherwise a guy like glass Joe burrow (whom I loathe) would have at least one ring.

Your fixation on QB play is misplaced, big time.

.

Burrow literally made it to a Superbowl with a meh defense.

You can go far with a average defense and a great QB. You will go much less far with a great defense and a meh QB.

Just yesterday I watched a great QB with an average defense beat a meh QB with a great defense. On the road too.

And the Cards history is a testament to it. QB is 80% of the solution.

You mean a single coaching regime?

Vance and Kliff talked about it in 2022 and said "It isn't the whole game" Joseph said. "It's clips of important plays. "I've been about three places where that has been done in the past," said Joseph, who was the head coach with the Broncos as well as assistant turns with the 49ers, Dolphins, Bengals and Texans. "That just keeps the communication clear where we are as a team."

Joseph said it's been weekly this year. Last year it happened less, mostly early in the season.

"It's good, because he is watching games on Sunday and he may not know what went on," Joseph said. "It's honest conversation and it's good for all parties involved in my opinion."

Joseph said he thinks it's a good idea so everyone is on the same page every week.

"There's always great communication," Kingsbury said. "We sit with Michael and watch the film, 'VJ' and I, every week, so he has a great understanding of what we're trying to do and where we're falling short. We take ownership for what we need to take ownership for and say what we're going to do moving forward. The communication has been clear and everybody's been great."

So one regime, and just sounds like a guy trying to understand the game more.

If this is your evidence of interfering you need to try harder.
He did it with Arians toward the end and he did it with Gannon.

Again, you admit to the main claim but then decide it doesn’t matter/if the captured AZ media isn’t reporting on it daily it doesn’t exist.

Michael was in the locker room and on the sideline, captured on camera and shared on socials. To say that Michael is not more involved as an owner than his peers is just to deny reality.

Ok, where are the sources for these claims with Arians and Gannon?

Not that these claims back up your point in any way. An owner wanting feedback for himself is info travelling up the chain, not Mike making decisions for down the chain. Something Joseph said happened at more than half the teams he worked for.

Of course he's around the team, he's the team president. There isn't an owner in the league that isn't around the team. That doesn't mean he's making decisions or interfering in football operations. It means he owns the team and is team president so is always around.

There are some arms length owners like Kroenke, who are so because they are busy MFs. But most owners around the league are in and around the team. If your issue is "I often see Mike doing things around the team that he owns" is your evidence that he's an issue then I think you're deluded.

There's absolutely no evidence of him getting involved in who we pick in the draft or what FAs we sign. Or interfering in team operations in any way at all. If you think we suck because of that you're wrong.

Madness!

You’re not the only one overly fixated on the QB position however, so I forgive you.

QB's are the keystone of success.

They can't do it all on their own. You can have a great QB but ruin him with a terrible OC or or bad OL. Of course there are other factors. Those other factors can sometimes elevate a mediocre QB and a team can do well, see Jimmy G, but the QB will still be a handbrake on success. The Niners would likely have a couple of super bowls with a better QB.

The Rams trading Goff for Stafford is the perfect example.

You aren't winning anything without a good QB. I'm often surprised by how deluded some GMs can be in what they have at QB. Signing big money players or big contract extensions for players on teams with crappy QBs. Heck, we did it here for the last 6 years.

You have to get right at QB, or have a short term plan to do so. Everything else is busy work without it.

You can simplify this by boiling it down to games. QB plays good, you will win 8/10. QB plays bad you will lose 9/10.

I am going to jump in to this conversation. Been following this team since 1973 and have seen some very bad football over the years. Here are my thoughts 1) Bissett is not worth the money they are paying him. Would much rather go with Beck to develop him for the future. Take the losses this year and build for the future. 2) Other teams draft oline and develop them into decent players. Why has that been a consistent problem with the Cards doing that. Is it coaching or the players they draft? Not an expert no do not know.

I think 5-6 wins is possible.

Regardless I will be in LA for the season opener as well as New York watching.
Was at the game. Bissett played good Sunday by managing the game well. Oline still had problems but if my memory is correct Bissett was sacked after trying to run for a first down so not really a sack.

Honest question. Has there ever been a member of the Cardinal coaching staff, past or present, who has complained about Bidwill's interference in the coaching functions? I'm truely interested in a knowing this.

Puh-lease. He sits in on film sessions with coaches. He's meddlesome as meddlesome can be.

No one would do this. This fundamentally misunderstands the brotherhood.

There were pressures, hurries; but Brissett stood tall, poised in the pocket. Big, strong quarterback. Murray of course went down quickly.

Wilks would be the closest thing to a former coach complaining about Bidwill. Bidwill and Keim wanted the Cardinals to run a 3-4 defense and Wilks agreed when he was hired. Then Wilks decided to change to a 4-3 mid stream and I think that was a big reason he got fired.

Puh-lease. He sits in on film sessions with coaches. He's meddlesome as meddlesome can be.

How's watching film "meddling"?

Are you honestly telling me that if YOU owned the Arizona Cardinals you wouldn't be interested in fully understanding what is happening on the field? You'd be making your decisions and forming your opinions of the job the coaches are doing based on vibes you receive in your office? How is trying to understand what is happening "meddling"?

I swear, if Mike did none of this and just sat in his office all day playing Candy Crush, or say on a beach in Cabo with hookers, you would all be hating on him as the worst owner for not being involved enough and not caring.

And yet again, you are making me sound like a Mike defender because I have to point out how your fantasies are wrong and unsubstantiated. Mike isn't a great owner, but not because he meddles. I think you have a poor understanding of just how involved the majority of owners are in their team. Not "meddling", that's rare, but just being in meetings, around the team, butt slapping players after wins etc. That's par for the course.

Mike isn't a great owner because he's not independently wealthy which leaves the team at a massive cash disadvantage. That's his main issue. And the things he is directly involved in, such as hiring GMs or HCs he has a middling record (although there is actually limited data with only 2 GM hires and limited HC hires). The meddling thing is just fan fiction.

There is zero evidence of Mike ever getting involved in who we draft, who we sign in FA, what team hits the field, what anyone gets paid, if anyone is extended or not, if anyone is cut or any other material decision affecting the team. The whole thing mainly comes from him appearing in videos on draft day, or on Flight Plan, and just generally being around like literally every owner.

There's no evidence of anything of you say, other than it being your opinion, that you are trying to act as if they're fact.

There is zero evidence that he doesn't get involved, unless you can provide some.

Mike isn't a great owner because he's not independently wealthy which leaves the team at a massive cash disadvantage. He may not have the money of others, but he has plenty to run a very successful NFL team. That's not even in question and only an excuse. Mike Brown is in a very similar boat and paid Joe Burrow, JaMarr Chase, Tee Higgins, Trey Hendrickson, and just signed the big DT after trading for him the past off season.

Yeah this is silly.

I don't need to provide evidence that something doesn't happen. In fact it's impossible to provide evidence of something that doesn't happen, because there is nothing to provide evidence of. What you want me to believe is that in nearly 20 years as team president Mike has interfered with drafts and other personnel decisions despite there being no evidence of this. And this is with several people that have worked at the team with axes to grind. Some of which have leaked information, but never about interference.

I never said Mike didn't have the money to run a team. He had obviously used that money to run the team. What he doesn't have is the cash to compete for top players like the Rams or Broncos.

Silly because it doesn't support your narrative. But keep holding onto that idiotic stance. I KNOW he's a very meddlesome owner. Do you think it's just coincidence that there are never any established NFL personnel that work for the Cardinals? It's all first timers or guys desperate enough to put up with him. Sean Payton was never coming to Arizona. John Harbaugh wouldn't even consider them. Monti was his 3rd option and would have taken a job anywhere.

As for Mikey being able to compete, the Bengals top 3 salaries total $551 million. Mikey's top 3 adds up to $227 million. Bidwill is ranked as the 26th richest owner. Mike Brown is 29th. The Steelers have the NFL's highest paid defense and the Rooney's are ranked 28th in wealth.

The whole question is asked in bad faith. He’s the president of the team. Nothing is “interference” in that role. Every time someone brings something up he dismisses it as no big deal or Very Normal Actually.

Michael is a terrible owner. The proof is in the results.

Hopefully MLF and his staff do well; quell some of that. He almost seems like a big fan despite the losing to make money thing. I think he cares. MLF. give him a reason to relax, believe, and retreat to his box. That confidence will help quell that. Of course, it's only week 2, and I'm waiting to wake up from the dream that we won week 1 and won nice too.
