What is Rory McIlroy's nationality? Team Europe star proud of where he was born originally appeared on The Sporting News

Rory McIlroy is one of the best golfers on the planet.

And the Ryder Cup star for Team Europe traces a lot of that back to his roots.

He's proud of where he from, in part because it's where he learned the game of golf in the first place.

What is Rory McIlroy's nationality?

Rory McIlroy is Northern Irish.

He's from the country of Northern Ireland.

That's a distinct country from Ireland located to its north.

He was born to Rosaleen McDonald and Gerry McIlroy.

Rory was an only child, and his father was a golfer who got McIlroy clubs early.

He golfed often at nearby Holywood Golf Club.

By age 16, McIlroy had left school to concentrate on golf. That certainly worked out well for him.

McIlroy still returns home to visit his family, and there were plenty of stories after McIlroy's Masters win about how his hometown supporters in Holywood were tuned in and experiencing the ups and downs of that tournament with full emotion.
