I really think F. Jones will have a good year too. My reasoning is that Blake sure got some guy (sarcas.) named todd heap into the game numerous times last year. I'm sure he'll continue this with F.Jones.
On another note, I personally am not dissatisfied with F.Jones. I am actually rather pleased with his performance. Did he put up numbers like he has before and can again? No.
Did he break the cardinals season te catching record...Yes.
That said I can't for the life of me say I am dissapointed in a player that bested all of the previous cardinal te's. Even though there hasn't been many that have been good.
I believe we will see great improvement with our returning wr's. I believe we will see a breakout season from Blake. I feel we we will finally see our young dl get better.
They have been getting better at run stopping, and these guys have some decent experience now. It's time for them to show up.
Our project players have had a year or two or three to get it together. There will be improvement. Will they be world beaters...hell no. But they should definitely be better then last year.
Starks will have a better year. Barrett and wilson will improve.
Our running game should be quite good next year. With Smith, Shipp, and Anderson, a sweet blocking fb, and another year together for the Big Red line sans grut will allow our running game to flourish under our deep ball approach.
In fact it should be light years ahead of last year (because of hodgins, smith and deep ball aproach). We did pretty good cardinal wise in that area last year. What did we have 1600 yards or so on the ground?
A wendall bryant in camp will help too. Let's hope that boldin and johnson don't repeat his mistake because we are going to need them THIS YEAR.
The key to remember (and this post) about our young players, is each should improve more than the other teams players do.
What I mean by that is that the learning curve is steep with young players and levels off after a few years in the league.
Most teams have a few young guys with steep learning curve, and mostly older guys with a shallow learning curve. Our young guys, which make up almost our entire roster, have had a couple years to notch up on that learning curve. More so than any other team.
I have seen improvement.
Look at the improvement of barrett, wilson, thompson. My guess is another 3 to 5 of our young players will make improvements like these guys did last year. It could be more due to circumstances that limited fisher, bryant, and gilmore from possibly being bust outs last year.
This year they may lead this bust out class, with some of the other younger guys adding to it. Such as d.johnson, any of our other wr's like mcaddley, boldin, johnson (1 of 2 high round rookie wr's should make at least a decent impact this year).
The question on our young team shouldn't be who can have a breakout season, the question should be who can't.
We have many projects, last years holdouts/injured, and young guys with talent that very easily can bust out. In fact they make up most of our roster. I really am excited to see that most of our players have 'potential'. Something we couldn't say about our 30th-53rd players on our rosters in years past
I really am looking forward to this season. If everything falls into place we could be a good team. But in reality everything Probably won't.
With a little non-injury or holdout luck I really wouldn't be surprised for the cards to be the most improved team of the year. That doesn't mean playoffs in '03. In '04????
I don't know what that translate into recordwise, but at least the cards should put the most entertaining product they have put on the field in years.
