The Phoenix Suns are signing center Duop Reath to a deal, sources tell ESPN. With Mark Williams (shoulder) sidelined for several months, the Suns add the former Portland Trail Blazers big man for frontcourt depth on the roster.

Suns got it done. Reath had several offers and chose the Phoenix Suns on a one-year vet minimum deal.

This won't be Duop Reath's first time in a Phoenix Suns uniform.

After spending the 2021-22 season in Australia's NBL, Reath appeared in two Summer League games for Phoenix in 2022.

Interesting. Duop Reath is eligible for a two-way contract. Looks like the Suns have options.

However, I suspect, there is a strong possibility he makes the Suns regular roster with other teams interested in him as well. Of course he will have to earn it.

“Despite his size and limitations athletically, he’s not afraid to do the dirty work inside. Always thought he had good court awareness and IQ. The pick and pop was his bread and butter”

An anonymous Rip City Remix source on Reath’s on-court strengths.

I'm just sorry Al McCoy isn't around anymore so we could hear something like "The Grim Reather with the putback!" or "The Great Barrier Reath with the timely block! Oh brother!" :D

It's a slur for "Italian." A very old one that you don't hear much anymore, but nevertheless. Understandable if you weren't aware, and obviously needlessly impacts other innocent usages.

Im surprised Reath was still available. He's a young stretch big with Two-Way eligibility. He played for a winning team last year also. I'm glad the Suns were able to swoop him up because he's exactly the type of player to take a flyer on. He plays like a poor man's Channing Frye with better shot blocking instincts.

Word is he was pursued by a handful of teams including the defending champion Knicks but he chose the Suns.

He is clearly a stretch 4-5, shooting over 40% from three. That skillset is a good addition to this roster. Eases the loss of Royce’s shooting a bit. Kinda like replacing a bit of Grayson’s contribution with Kennard.

Hope to see some doowop in the preseason so he don't get buried on the bench until march. I like Oso much as a person and competitor but he must add to his game for him to be useful. I still hope for growth from Maluach and Fleming. That along with the new PF is where we can improve. I doubt Jalen Green changes his game in a summer so the roster is still badly composed in my opinion. Ott to be really clever to design an efficient offense from that starting five. I hope I will eat my words. Go Suns.

I have noticed on all the highlights of Reath, it's mostly three point shots off the pick and pop. What I am noting is there's no highlights of blocks, steals, etc. This guy definitely has a three point shot. I am sensing he isn't higher up on the big man ladder in the NBA due to a lack of defense?

I found this article on Reath where they asses his defense as being mostly as a rim protector, but not good on guarding guys on the perimeter, or rebounding.
