Absolute garbage player who is even worse than the crap buffet of Vargas, Rojas, Young and Leyba. Waste of a roster spot.

Signing a player the Baltimore Orioles didn't want is not the best decision

And they're talking on KTAR like it indeed is Hazen's choice to be the starting second baseman. Ugh...

Nah they are going to get Dozier to be the primary watch

Almost as bad...Well, maybe not almost, since Valaika is worse than some random guy off the street, but certainly no better than the awful combination of Vargas/Rojas/Leyba/Young/Lamb in the starting line-up.

Dozier at least has a positive WAR. Valaika not so much

Dozier totally seems like a Hazen player. Low BA, Decent OBP, Big HR ability

Dozier also just 3 years from an MVP plus a Gold Glove. Lot a smoke behind this.

.329 (his projected OBP for next season) isn't all that great. Besides, where in the order would we bat him?

I guess we could do worse, but in my opinion the no-brainer move here is still to acquire Starling Marte and move Ketel Marte back to 2B.

Sure that is the better move but it doesn't seem like they want to go that route. Dozier probably bats 6

He also had a replacement-level-type WAR of 0.7 last year, has fared horribly in the NL, is now past his prime (about to turn 33, which is downright elderly for infielders in this day and age) and is only one year removed from a horrendous line of .215/.305/.391/.696 with an even worse line of .182/.300/.350/.650 after being traded to the NL. He will never again come close to the seasons he had in his prime in 2015-2017.

That pretty much leaves a batting order of:

1. Ketel Marte (projected .290/.359/.507/.866)
2. David Peralta (projected .278/.340/.467/.807)
3. Eduardo Escobar (projected .264/.321/.484/.805)
4. Christian Walker (projected .253/.337/.474/.811)
5. Kole Calhoun (projected .229/.313/.426/.739)
6. Brian Dozier (projected .239/.329/.436/.765)
7. Carson Kelly (projected .240/.328/.441/.769)
8. Nick Ahmed (projected .246/.305/.425/.730)
9. Pitcher

That provides very little speed and base-stealing and next to no contact after the 4 spot in the order. That line-up looks WAY too much like an American League line-up that is over-dependent on the Home Run in the 3-6 spots for scoring.

You need to fix your first lineup. Escobar, of course, would be at 3B.

Unless, of course, the shift is on. :)

In my opinion, Ahmed is nowhere near a good enough contact hitter to bat in the 2-hole.
