Seattle Mariners prospect Cole Young got the news he had been waiting for his entire life.
While playing for the Triple-A Tacoma Rainers on May 30, the 21-year-old infield was removed from the game and pulled aside by manager John Russell in the dugout.
"I'm really proud of what you've done and how far you've come," Russell told Young. "Just take that to Seattle tomorrow, okay?"
Young, slowly realizing he was being promoted to the major leagues, couldn't believe what he was hearing.
"Where?"
"Seattle."
"When?"
"Tomorrow. So you're done, you're not playing any more of this game."
Young's teammates showered him with hugs and congratulations, but he had to start packing his bags to join up with the Mariners. On the way back to the locker room, Young immediately called his parents and brother to share the big news.
A first-round draft pick in 2022, Young made his MLB debut on May 31, delivering a walk-off win for the Mariners against the Minnesota Twins.
MLB.com ranks Young as the Mariners' third-best prospect and No. 41 overall in the minors.
