Vikings Receive Alarming Justin Jefferson Injury News originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
The Minnesota Vikings are handing the keys to their offense over to second-year quarterback J.J. McCarthy, and if he’s to be successful, he’s going to need a healthy complement of weapons.
McCarthy, who missed his entire rookie season after suffering a torn meniscus in his right knee last preseason that required surgery, is taking over recently departed for Sam Darnold, who had a career revival in Minnesota in 2024, thanks, in part, to star wide receiver Justin Jefferson.
Darnold threw for a career-high 4,319 yards and 35 touchdowns, and 1,533 of those yards and 10 of those touchdowns went Jefferson’s way.
It marked the fifth straight season the 26-year-old wideout had hit the 1,000-yard plateau, and he’s had 100 or more catches three times and hit double-digit touchdowns twice.
And as Jefferson kicked off his sixth NFL training camp this week, he suffered an unfortunate setback.
The Vikings announced on Friday afternoon that Jefferson had suffered an injury during camp and was expected to miss some time.
“Head Coach Kevin O’Connell has announced that WR Justin Jefferson has a mild hamstring strain and he will be held out of practice," the Vikings announced on X. "Jefferson will be re-evaluated next week."
It’s not known how severe Jefferson’s situation is, but hamstring injuries have been known to sideline some receivers for weeks, even months.
In fact, Jefferson suffered a grade 2 thigh hamstring tear during the 2023 season that sidelined him for seven weeks. He was placed on injured reserve in Week 5 and didn’t return until Week 14.
