USA Today questioned this week who would handle kickoffs for the Cards. This first came up when the Cards signed Prater, who had been so weak at this aspect, the Lions did not use him in this role. Some teams use their punter, but this is not a skill Lee possesses. The Cards will have Tyler Newsome in camp. He has not often kicked off since college, but even in school his touchback percentage was only 25. Prater figures to be a plus on field goals, but it will be hard for the coverage team to succeed unless a kickoff specialist is added to the roster.

Since touchbacks now come out to the 25 (I believe), I prefer it when we kick to the 2-3 yard line, and make the opponent return it. Our kick coverage teams are pretty good. JMO.

I was going to say something along these lines, I feel like the average starting position for returned kicks must be quite close to touchbacks.

I hope you are right

This coaching staff has not shown to be very detail oriented and this could be a big hole in our ST's
Looking back over the years - a depressing characteristic of our team has been to shrug its shoulders and ignore roster weaknesses year after year - most notably OL and most recetly CB2.

We should be aware by now that a roster-hole, however "no big deal", can destroy a season.

I say let Prater kick it to the 5 or so. With a touchback coming out to the 25 nowadays, all you need is to put the ball in play and have a half-decent coverage team, and you should be able to keep it at/before the 25. Unless that Amos dude that Arians refused to fire is coaching your coverage team, then you need a guy to put it out of the end zone on every kick.

Ignore? We upgraded the position from last year. Last year we had an issue converting long and clutch field goals. We went out and signed one of the most accurate and clutch long field goal kickers in nfl history who also has been coached by our special teams coach before. Keim could bring in Pat Mahommes at the vet minimum and people on this board would ***** about his injury history.

For me the real valid question is our kick/punt returners. Hope for a big improvement from last year, with most of my hopes centered around Rondale Moore.

My criticism of the lteam's failure to address specific roster-weaknesses was intended to single out lacks of urgency addressing OL, CB2 etc. and not K or P.

Quite possibly, the reason for ignoring OL and CB2 while being more aggressive trying to upgrade K or P may have more to do with mgt priorities or supply & demand.

My point was that mgt seemed to have blind spots dealing with certain roster spots and it's often come back to bite us.

Now they’re ignoring the line? On paper, this is easily the best O-line in the history of the Arizona Cardinals.

I hear what you are saying, but let's not go that far...
