There's no single correct way for a student to choose the university they'll attend, but I know I wasn't the only one who let my pet affect my decision. I knew I didn't want to be super far from home, so I could still see my family's dog on the weekend, but the decision to stay with the closer school was the best choice for me in more ways than one.
It was the cherry on top to live on such a dog-friendly public campus, where I met plenty of four-legged friends, but it would have been so cool to attend a school with a live mascot like Dubs II. This friendly Husky is the mascot for the University of Washington's sporting teams, but he also uplifts sports and makes people's days wherever he goes.
Dubs is no stranger to the spotlight, but he gained a lot of extra attention on April 22, when he pulled the most unexpected move on a crowd of baseball fans. A simple first pitch turned into pure chaos!
Just look at him go! As a Siberian Husky owner, I'm not surprised to see this guy sprinting around so quickly without a care in the world. Huskies can be harbingers of chaos when they're in the right moods, and clearly, Dubs was more than ready to run.
I couldn't help but laugh out loud at the viewer's enthusiasm for the furry runaway. Nate wrote, "That's the most Husky thing I've ever seen," while Victoria admitted, "I'd be disappointed if he didn't get the zoomies." Considering how calm the dog's handlers were, I'm beginning to wonder whether this is planned, or whether he does this all the time!
Dubs II has been following in the pawprints of over ten other Huskies who have represented the University of Washington. He makes appearances at sports games, on campus, and even on TV, but no one loves him more than the family and trainers he spends every day with.
Even though the mascot for the University of Washington is a Husky, Dubs (and all the dogs who came before him) isn't a Husky at all. He's an Alaskan Malamute! The University chose this dog breed because "it's the strongest of all breeds," but many folks don't know the difference anyway.
As a Malamute, Dubs has insanely thick fur that takes hours to dry and perfect. Besides, he has to look cute for all of his outings, so this grooming and celebrity beauty treatment is incredibly worth it.
Keep being a star, Dubs!

University of Washington... Malamutes?
