Former Tennessee football player Trey Smith has agreed to a four-year, $94 million contract extension with Kansas City.
Smith's deal was first reported by ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter and Nate Taylor. The deal will make Smith the highest paid offensive guard. His contract includes $70 million in guaranteed money, the most ever tendered to an offensive lineman. Before agreeing to terms Tuesday, he was the lone player in the league playing with a franchise tag.
Smith was selected in the sixth round of the 2021 NFL draft (No. 226 overall). He has played in 67 NFL games, including 67 starts. Smith, a two-time Super Bowl champion, was selected to the 2024 Pro Bowl and was named to the PFWA All-Rookie Team in 2021.
He played for the Vols from 2017-20 under head coaches Butch Jones and Jeremy Pruitt. Smith was a three-time All-SEC standout, earning first-team honors (2019-20) and was named to the second team in 2017.
The Humboldt, Tennessee native played is from University School of Jackson in Jackson, Tennessee. He played for head coach Rusty Bradley.
Bradley is the son of former Tennessee assistant coach Mark Bradley.
