Cardinals Biggest hole: Cornerback
(each NFCW team is Cornerback except Seattle is QB)

The Cardinals know who their top three corners will be, but none of them actually looks like a top corner. In three qualified NFL seasons, Byron Murphy Jr. has never made the top 50 players at the position in coverage success rate. He may be best suited to a slot corner role, and his contract is up after the season -- even if he plays well in 2022, he might be leaving town in 2023.

Marco Wilson, a fourth-round draft pick out of Florida last year, was dreadful as a rookie, ranking 79th out of 81 qualifiers in coverage success rate. The new face is Jeff Gladney, the Vikings' first-round pick in 2020, who has generated bad headlines both on the field (70th in coverage success rate as a rookie) and off (was released last preseason after a domestic violence indictment; he was found not guilty in March).

So they don't know anything about our team. Got it.

DLine/pass rush is terrifying, but that much worse than our corner situation? We have an ok slot corner, and a bunch of hope. Our corners were routinely torched last year. How can corner not be a top concern?

Because our pass defense wasn't that big of a concern and we have added pieces. Our run defense was atrocious at times, and our pass rush is much worse than last year.

Our corners got torched when our pass-rush dried up. Our corners last season looked okay, but played good when the pass-rush was there. Unless Zach Allen turns into Justin Smith, Cameron Thomas turns into Maxx Crosby, & Myjai Sanders turns into Aldon Smith, the DLine/Pass-Rush is easily the biggest concern.

The fun of this year on D is figuring out which hole to plug first!

like so many other position groups on this team:

do we get the secondary play from weeks 1-10 when it was pretty good, or,

weeks 11-18 when it was bottom 3 in the NFL?

for the two starting CBs --

Byron Murphy gave up a 87.6 passer rating when targeted, with 4 picks vs 5 TDs. for perspective, a QB with that rating would be bottom third in the NFL. Thats not bad. Again, his season was inconsistent -- good for 2/3, not so much at the end.

Marco Wilson on the other hand -- a 120.8 rating when targeted. A QB doing that would lead the NFL. Biggest jump for young players is year 2 vs year 1. So -- does he become a 95 rating when targeted kinda CB? if so, then I think CB will be okay.

Yeah the cb has been horrible too
Murphy with his highs and lows
Wilson basically couldn't cover anyone on his side, one of the worst individual performance i remember
Alford has been decent(the best Cardinals cb) till the injury happened
Hamilton was good for a depth guy playing the slot
Kevin Peterson..
Rasul Douglas was likely our second best CB, but has been confined to the practice squad
Thats say a lot about defensive coaches talent evaluation
Safety is our bright spot basically cause of Jalen Thompson great season
Thompson is our best defensive player by far
I expect them letting him go when the contract expire and sticking with budda

87.6 is pretty solid. Not elite, but definitely good.

Wilson looked a hair slow all of last season. I agree he should be better, but no guarantees.
