Over the weekend I had a problem with my TiVo and thought I'd share my solution with the TV crowd. I can't believe it'd just be me that will have it.
One day, the TV started getting really "choppy" and stopping and starting in spurts. At first, it was fairly rare, so I chalked it up to sunspots of something going on with the satellite signal. Then, it got to the point where it was unwatchable. And, because the delay was really bad (REALLY bad) in the TiVo menus, I deduced it wasn't the TV set, it wasn't the Satellite, it was the TiVo box. (this problem went from not so bad to really really bad overnight).
Long story short, I spent a couple of hours trying various things ranging from restarting to deleting most of the saved shows and emptying the season pass queues, but what did the trick was resetting the thumbs up/thumbs down memory.
I've had the TiVo for a while (it's an original Series 2, I think). It's about 3 years old. But, I gues those thumbs settings remember what you record (and watch), so they take up a ton of memory.
Runs like a charm now. If your TiVo is acting wonky, you might try it.
