Thursday Round-Up: WeBo Tennis and Local Softball teams victorious, Baseball teams suffer close losses

The Western Boone tennis team topped McCutcheon 3-2 on Thursday evening.

The Stars swept the doubles points. The No. 2 team of Grace Maners and Paige Anderson won 7-6 (7-5), 6-3 over Miley Tribby and Kylee Cotterman.

At No. 1 doubles, Janie Ransom and Olivia Smith won the first set over Lola Goodrick and Madalyn Cheesman 6-1, but dropped the second 6-4. They came back to win the third set 6-4 and finish off the match.

The Stars also got a win from Jade Strong, winning 6-1, 6-2 over Aubrey Dempewolf.

At No. 1 singles, Izzy Adams fell to Emily Harding 6-3, 6-2 and at No. 2 singles, Abby Brunty lost to Emily Kendall 6-1, 6-3.

The Stars, now 2-0, host Attica on Tuesday.

Lebanon Softball

The Lebanon softball team won an extra-inning thriller 8-7 over Covenant Christian in eight innings.

The game was tied at 2 after an inning, with Addy Zell driving in the two Tiger runs with a single.

After Covenant scored a run in the top of the second, the Tigers came back with three runs in the bottom of the third. The Tigers scored all three runs capitalizing on a couple of Covenant Christian errors.

Each team scored a run in the fifth, with a Miley Wilhoite single giving Lebanon a 6-4 lead.

But in the top of the sixth, Covenant scored three times to take a 1-run lead.

Lebanon tied the game in the seventh on a squeeze bunt, with Morgan Stofer getting the bunt down to score Sophie Robison.

After holding the visitors in the top of the eighth, Lebanon loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom half of the inning, with Ali Bir scoring on an errors to score the winning run.

Zell was 4-for-5 with two RBIs. MacKenzie Carey was 1-for-4 with a walk, with Robison and Stofer going 1-for-3 with a walk.

Miley Wilhoite pitched the first 5.1 innings, allowing one earned runs on five hits. She struck out seven.

The Tigers face Perry Meridian on Friday.

WeBo Softball

The Western Boone softball team evened their record at 2-2 with a 17-3 five-inning win over Faith Christian.

The Stars scored in four of their five at bats, scoring four in the second and six in the third and fifth.

Mickey Burns was 3-for-4 with four RBIs and two runs scored.

Raina Lutz was 3-for-4 with a home run, a double, three RBIs and three runs scored and three RBIs. Morganne Grant was 3-for-4 with a double, three runs scored and two RBIs. Mickayla Naanos was 2-for-4 with a run scored. Dottie Wilson was 2-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and two RBIs.

Ally Lewis was 1-for-2 with two walks and three runs scored.

Lewis got the win, allowing one earned run on four hits in four innings. She struck out eight.

Zionsville Baseball

The Zionsville baseball team dropped their HCC opener, 4-3 to Fishers.

Zionsville scored all three of their runs in the first inning.

Matt Pedersen hit an RBI-double to score Tyler Hughes, and scored on a sacrifice fly from Brayden Ring. Camden Moore followed with an RBI-single to make it 3-1.

Fishers came back with a run in the third and two in the fourth to take the lead.

The Eagles put two on with two outs in the sixth and the seventh, but couldn't get the tying run across.

Jackson Gilley was 1-for-3 with a walk for the Eagles. Pedersen was 1-for-3 with a walk and Moore was 1-for-2 with a walk.

The two teams meet for game two on Friday in Fishers.

Lebanon Baseball

The Lebanon baseball team dropped their season opener 9-1 to Lafayette Central Catholic.

The Tigers got their run in the third when Willie Shelton walked with one out, stole second, moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on an error.

Nate Kouns was 1-for-3 for the Tigers. Owen Taylor, Bryce Nelson and Jamil Phillippe drew walks.

Shelton pitched the final four innings, allowing one run on one hit and striking out four.

The Tigers travel to Lawrence Central on Friday.
