Wings related (sort of)…..
Go to your local sporting goods store, eBay, Amazon or Facebook market place and buy a compound bow. Have someone who knows something about bows make certain that your sight is dialed in and you are shooting the right spine weight of arrow.
Pay the $50 for a hunting license
Watch every you tube video on shot placement, take an online Bowhunting safety course, and then practice until you can replicate. A large stack of cardboard ratchet strapped together or a ball of goodwill blue jeans wrapped in duct tape have served me for thousands of practice shots.
Then walk into the woods and bring home a couple of deer, or elk, or a big black bear and pack your fridge full of “free” meat. You do not need a butcher. You tube on “processing X animal” and a sharp knife is all you need. And there are super cheap ways to acquire and sharpen a knife.
Hunting is exactly how you promote conservation - take out the big dominant males (who carry the most meat) so the younger ones can contribute to the gene pool (and not suck up all of the resources like land, food, girls, etc).
I’ve done this for a couple of years now and beyond my initial cost of buying the bow and the very occasional splitting of one arrow with another - you just reuse the same gear over and over (bullets are expensive arrows are re-useable for YEARS).
Last year I got 2 deer and my daughter got one. This year I already got a bear and a deer (probably could have had at least 3 big bucks if I’d been inclined).
And over 150 pounds of “free” very lean and tasty meat in the freezer. My brother’s family just enjoyed a 3lb rump roast off of the deer I got last week.
Teddy Roosevelt fought hard to make an America where out doors sports and hunting were preserved. Take advantage.
I know there are a million excuses…. But I lived in Washington DC and hunted. I’ve had 2 shoulder surgeries and I can still pull a bow. I’m in my mid-50s and have ZERO challenges tracking a blood trail and loading a dead animal onto a plastic sled and dragging it home. Trust me - if I can do it so can you.
