The Chicago Bears made some impactful additions through the 2025 NFL draft, including a pair of playmakers for new head coach Ben Johnson. One of the best (and most surprising) selections was Missouri wide receiver Luther Burden III, who fell to Chicago at 39th overall in the second round.
Burden was considered a first-round prospect who fell right into the Bears' hands, and they just couldn't pass on him. He's speedy, explosive and can line up inside, outside or even out of the backfield. Simply put: Johnson might've gotten his Amon-Ra St. Brown in this Chicago offense.
ESPN's Matt Miller ranked the 100 best picks in the draft, where Burden landed in the No. 1 spot as Miller's top receiver and given his current situation getting to work with Johnson. Bears rookie tight end Colston Loveland, selected 10th overall, also made the list at No. 7.
Burden joins a receiver room that features veteran DJ Moore and second-year pro Rome Odunze. And, along with tight ends Cole Kmet and Loveland, quarterback Caleb Williams has no shortage of weapons at his disposal.
Johnson talked about the importance of the slot receiver in his offense. While Johnson will move guys around, it's worth noting that Burden ran 88% of his routes from the slot over the past two seasons at Missouri. So it certainly feels like Burden could emerge as a playmaker in his rookie season.

Burden was my top wide receiver in the class (I'm counting Travis Hunter as a two-way player), and he landed in a great situation with the Bears and new coach Ben Johnson. Burden's yards-after-catch ability is terrific, and Johnson's scheme has been elite at creating space for wide receivers. Burden likely starts as a slot receiver with DJ Moore and Rome Odunze flanking him, but he thrived in that alignment at Missouri.
