SAN DIEGO — Diamondbacks right-hander Ryne Nelson was feeling nervous the night before his major debut, then again on Monday morning. But he said the butterflies were mostly gone by the time he took the mound at Petco Park later in the afternoon.

Nelson did not look uncomfortable facing the San Diego Padres. He did not look overwhelmed or intimidated. If anything, he looked like someone who had pitched 30-some times a year in the majors for several years.

Nelson breezed through seven sharp innings in a 5-0 win over the San Diego Padres, turning in not just the most impressive debut in franchise history but one of the more impressive in baseball history.

Greatest first name in baseball history! He's destined for greatness!

He will be in the rotation next year. Him, Kelly, Gallen, a 4th and Davies as the 5th would work as long as Bumgarner is gone. There has to be a 4th start in this system along with a closer.

This team might he scary good next year which is a year early!

I'm tempering expectations given its only his second start and MLB teams haven't figured him out yet but one hell of a debut and follow up performance.

Tommy Henry had a strong debut but has come down to Earth so not going to expect Nelson or Pfaadt when he arrives to be an instant Ace.
