I am so jaded and cynical right now that I can't even bring myself to go fishing these days. Once again the wealthy farmers, now backed by Trump and the GOP, are making an end around against science for the Nth time and trying to get more water rights by pushing reduced fishing regulations. The idea is that water has been limited because of very small baitfish that are protected under the endangered species act so the amount of water pumped out of the Delta is limited to protect those fish. the same with salmon.

So the farmers are now pushing the claim that "non native" fish such as striped bass and largemouth bass are actually the problem, they eat the small salmon and small baitfish(they do) and if we remove regulations against fishing for them(bag limits) the problem goes away. All they really want is to decimate the population of stripers and largemouth so fishing groups won't care anymore and won't fight them in court. This is like the 4th go around and it looks more and more like they will win this time. at a meeting in Redding yesterday i read that science was presented that says about 4% deaths by salmon smolt and the delta smelt are from non native fish predation, and 96% percent are due to conditions in the delta, pumping of water, excess salinity etc. So 96% of the problem is related to farming and the farmers are going to get regulations overturned by blaming it on the 4%.

What happens then is there's no size or bag limit. Not only will "meat fishermen" be able to legally catch and kill whatever they want, farmers will be paying them to do it. One of the things that has been uncovered is a under the table agreement between certain big farmers that have been paying private fishermen to break the law and catch and kill more fish. once the bag limit is removed that won't be illegal and they will do it on a bigger scale.

The impact on sport fishing in California will be huge, why have bass tournaments if there's almost no largemouth?

The science says the salmon won't come back anyways but with the end of opposition from fishermen, they will be allowed to violate the endangered species act and pump more water. Once there are no more Delta Smelt and salmon runs are even further decimated, nobody will oppose them.

All this so the Resnick family can grow almonds and sell them overseas.

    Dumb.

Although, I will note, that plagiarism is rife in the legal community.

Doesn’t make it right. What’s amazing to me is that you have to work pretty hard and be moderately intelligent to make it through law school and pass a bar exam. Why plagiarize when you’re likely competent enough to do it yourself?
