NHL could pull players from Sochi Olympics over terror concerns

http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/h...rror-concerns-article-1.1593327#ixzz2riTA6eaf

NHL player participation in the Olympics beyond 2014 is in doubt for a host of logistical and financial reasons, and though it's highly unlikely, a worst-case scenario exists to jeopardize their presence in Sochi, Russia, this February, as well.

League deputy commissioner Bill Daly expressed full confidence in security steps taken in Russia for the upcoming Games during a recent interview with the Associated Press, but he allowed for the possibility that a major security breach could keep NHL players from traveling overseas at all.

"As of now, we do not doubt that all necessary steps are being taken by the Sochi Organizing Committee, the Russian government and the IOC to ensure the safety of the athletes and guests in Sochi," Daly wrote Monday in an email to the AP. "Obviously, if something significant were to transpire between now and February 9 that causes us to question that conclusion, we will re-evaluate. I don't expect that that will become necessary."

Winter Olympics 2014: Should Americans go to Sochi?

http://www.cbsnews.com/news/winter-olympics-2014-should-americans-go-to-sochi/

Should Americans go to Sochi, Russia, for the 2014 Winter Olympics?

CBS News senior security contributor Michael Morell, a former CIA deputy director, said on "CBS This Morning," that he would go -- and take his family -- but said these are the "most dangerous Olympics" he's experienced in his adult life.

It's an opinion echoed by House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Michael McCaul, R-Texas, on Sunday's "Face the Nation": "I would say we should not scare people from attending the Olympics," he said. "It's a time-honored tradition. If we do not support our team and show up, I think the terrorists are winning and I think that's what they're trying to do here. Having said that, I would say that the security threat to the Olympics, this particular Olympics is the greatest I've ever seen."

The State Department has updated travel warnings for tourists at the Winter Olympics in Sochi. The games begin next weekend in the face of repeated terror threats. American athletes are being asked not to wear USA logos outside Olympic venues.

I love the opening ceremony. Easily one of my favorite things in sports. So much joy and pride. :)

Skiers going 85 mph down a mountain, then flying through the air for 80 yards.

What a heart breaker for the womens hockey team. They had the gold metals around their necks. And that empty netter of the post... what a hear breaker.

You just can't blow a two goal lead that late, but the officiating in OT was horrific. The US women deserved better.

My wife and I stayed up late and watched the Women's figure skating last night. Gracie Gold from the US did great, except for one fall which of course put her out of medal contention. The other gal from the US, Ashley Wagner of whatever, totally reminds us of Tonya Harding. Her demeanor totally is like she wants to kick someone's ass. Fortunately, she didn't attack anyone. Lots of fun. The gal from Russia who won was awesome.

US A loses to Canada 1-0

Plays Finland for Bronze medal

And didn't medal. Pathetic to be shut out for the last two games and they said Yandle was too risky. Way too much talent for this outcome. :madarms:
