I believe they said it in Hamlet, "to tush push or not to tush push that is the question." Or something like that, but that is the question that NFL owners will be discussing when they meet this week in Minneapolis. The opposition of this rule has been gaining steam over the offseason as the defending Super Bowl champions have seemed to perfect it.

According to NFL insider Adam Schefter of ESPN, owners will vote on a proposal to ban the play during their meetings on Tuesday and Wednesday. The perception here is that if you can't beat it, ban it. One should expect there will be more owners for banning this play than against it, but until the vote takes place, that is just the sense I get.

In order for the play to be banned, the vote would need 75% (24 of 32) of owners to be in agreement for the rule to get passed. The 2005 league rule is likely in the way this would go should it pass. The rule prohibited a ball carrier from being pushed or pulled.

The play was run on just 0.28% of all plays last season per ESPN. For a play that was effectively run less than a quarter of a percent, it sure has a lot of teams up in arms. We shall see what transpires from this vote but either way someone isn't going to get their way.
