We're going to get fleeced no matter what. He's had a couple of years of underperforming while being overpaid. We are in such bad shape on many fronts. We're probably better off holding on to him than paying someone else to take him off of our hands. If he does stay, we clearly need to change the leadership in the room to someone else.

This team. :bang:

Two of the Bruins' primary needs are a left-shooting top-four defenseman and another winger who can score goals. There's one team that could satisfy both areas via trade, and it's the Arizona Coyotes.

"The Boston Bruins may revisit trade talks on Arizona Coyotes captain Oliver Ekman-Larsson. The bigger question: Could a potential package include winger and Boston native Conor Garland? The Bruins are believed to have interest in both," longtime NHL reporter Frank Seravalli wrote Tuesday on Daily Faceoff.

Seravalli added later in the story: "One way to better pique the interest of the Bruins? Include Garland in the conversation. It’s clear that Garland is on his way out of the desert. The scrappy Scituate, Mass., native has enjoyed success in a Bruins jersey before – racking up 42 goals and 94 points in just 40 games in a season with the Boston Jr. Bruins playing alongside Jack Eichel. (He actually outscored Eichel that season.)"

Coyotes Reportedly Unwilling To Retain Much Oliver Ekman-Larsson Money In 2020 Trade Talks
“The Coyotes were barely willing to move the needle then, sources suggesting a willingness to shave off $1.25 million or so per season, but even that was not firm. Will Armstrong be willing to retain more now? That is the key to making a deal happen, not just in Boston but anywhere else.

Ekman-Larsson, with the way he has played, is not even a $7 million player, and one has to think that could’ve torpedoed talks with the Bruins and Canucks — especially when at that point there still were seven years left on the deal.

Perhaps Ekman-Larsson is a change-of-scenery guy, but most general managers wouldn’t be willing to risk $7-8.25 million of their cap space on someone you hope returns to elite form.

Antti Raanta – Arizona Coyotes

When he’s healthy, Antti Raanta is fantastic. The 32-year-old netminder has a career save percentage of .919 and goals-against average of 2.46 in eight NHL seasons. Raanta, who signed as an undrafted free agent out of Finland, made his NHL debut with the Chicago Blackhawks in 2013-14. Since then, among 87 goalies who have played at least 50 NHL games, Raanta is tied for eighth in SP (with Carey Price and Corey Crawford) and ninth in GAA.

Raanta spent two years each with Chicago and the New York Rangers before settling in Arizona ahead of 2017-18. And Raanta thrived in Arizona’s defense-first system. His first three years with the Coyotes were not only the best of his career but put him among the league’s elite. In those seasons, he played 92 games, and his .924 SP tied him with teammate Darcy Kuemper for the NHL’s best (min. 25 games). In the ’17-18 season – when he started a career-high 46 games – Raanta led the league in goals-saved above expected. His GSAx mark of 30.1 that season was the seventh-best of the previous decade.

According to Elliotte Friedman, the Coyotes will attempt to trade OEL again this summer. “Last time he gave the Coyotes two teams to deal with – Boston and Vancouver,” he explained. “This time around they are going to approach it differently. What Larsson told the Coyotes and what they’ve agreed to do is go out there, check the market, and they will bring a deal to him and he can decide if he’s comfortable going to that team”

Craig Morgan who covers the Arizona Coyotes confirmed Friedman’s report and added, “Ekman-Larsson’s camp has not given the Coyotes a specific list of acceptable teams, but there are certain teams to which he will not approve a trade and some of those should be fairly obvious.”

Inevitably, someone has linked Ekman-Larsson to the Rangers. Per The Fourth Period’s Summer Trade Watch List, the NYR, Devils, Kraken, Bruins, and Canucks are linked to him. It’s possible that Seattle, NJ, and the Bruins are but the Canucks have no cap space for him.

Not sure there's any obvious conclusion to jump to. I doubt he would jump on a plane to say we really want you gone, so I would guess he just wants to explain the vision and take the temperature on OEL's willingness to buy in.
