My Christian Walker bat arrived today. Got it when they were doing the Diamondbacks Cares thing during a game last month. It was a random selection from the bats they had signed by 7 different players from last year's team.

Assuming he plays today (or tomorrow), #Dbacks 1B Christian Walker will become just the 9th position player in franchise history to appear in 800 games with the Diamondbacks.
2B Ketel Marte (908) recently passed C Miguel Montero for 4th on the same list a couple weeks back.

Prior to last night, #Dbacks 1B Christian Walker was hitting .155 since July 20th (3 XBH, 5 RBI, 12 K).

We're hoping last night was a slump buster (his 5th multi-HR game of '24).Interesting note: Walker is hitting .338 between innings 1-4 this year (.178 after the 4th inning).

Such a great guy and a great story.
I think he’s a great presence in the dugout as well. But I’d be lying if I didn’t express my concern that his best days could be in the past.
Such a tough call for the team. And I believe there could be a better than a 50-50 chance Walker would be willing to give serious consideration to a home team discount… But it will depend upon the money being offered by other teams. If that money is so far above what the Dbacks are willing to offer, Walker might not be able to turn it down… which, might not be the worst outcome in the end.

It is a no brainer you give him the Qualifying Offer.
Odds are good he’ll be offered well above the QO… question is, will he choose to stay.
Not sure what the QO will be?

EDIT: Looks like the QO will be just north of $21m.

Walker will certainly desire an extended contract - minimally 3 years… likely more.
He’ll be 34 for the 2025 season… Would the Dbacks offer a 3-year deal? Maybe around $15m per year (he made $11m this year)?

Sure but you extend the offer and let him reject it to protect yourself

Last contracts are tricky. Some team may offer 3 or 4 years with good money. That might be difficult for us to match consider other needs.
