New Texas men’s basketball coach Sean Miller has a contract more than double the value of previous coach Rodney Terry, according to details posted late Friday on the University of Texas Board of Regents agenda book for its upcoming meeting.
During its next meeting Wednesday and Thursday, the board is expected to approve a six-year contract for $31.8 million for Miller, who has a 487-196 record as a head coach. The deal for Miller, 56, includes up to $850,000 in incentives each season for Miller, who took over the Texas program in late March. Texas athletic director Chris Del Conte fired Terry following two full seasons as the head coach.

Terry had signed a five-year, $15.3 million deal after leading the Longhorns to the NCAA Tournament’s Elite Eight in 2023.
Miller’s guaranteed salary includes $4.8 million for the 2025-2026 season, $5 million in 2026-27, $5.2 million in 2027-28, $5.4 million in 2028-2029, $5.6 million in 2029-2030 and $5.8 million in 2030-31.
Other guaranteed compensation in his contract includes two automobiles from a dealer, club memberships, 20 tickets for all home basketball games, eight tickets for all away basketball games, 12 tickets for all postseason basketball team games, six tickets to home games for all other University of Texas sports, 20 hours of personal use of a private airplane per year, a Nike Elite allowance of $5,000 per year and a one-time payment of $250,000 for relocation.

In addition to sports camps and clinics, Miller’s nonguaranteed compensation will include the following bonuses: $100,000 for a regular season conference championship; $100,000 for a conference tournament championship; $100,000 for reaching the NCAA Tournament; $150,000 for reaching the round of 32 in the NCAA Tournament; $200,000 for reaching the round of 16 in the NCAA Tournament; $250,000 for reaching the Elite Eight in the NCAA Tournament; $300,000 for reaching Final Four in the NCAA Tournament; $350,000 for reaching the championship game in the NCAA Tournament and $400,000 for winning a national championship.
Miller will also receive a $50,000 bonus is he wins a conference coach of the year award and $100,000 for a national coach of the year award.
A Pennsylvania native who played collegiately at Pitt, Miller becomes the 27th head basketball coach at Texas and the fourth since Rick Barnes left the program in 2015 after 17 seasons. Miller's 20-year career includes 12 seasons leading Arizona and eight seasons leading Xavier. He has 11 regular-season championships to his credit along with four Elite Eight appearances and four more Sweet 16 berths.
Details of a contract buyout were not included in the board meeting agenda.
