New Texas A&M basketball head coach Bucky McMillan is hard at work on the recruiting trail, starting and ending with gaining immediate contributors from the transfer portal. Last weekend, McMillan gained his first portal commitments in star North Alabama star guard Jacari Lane, followed by promising reserve forward Zach Clemence, who spent his previous three seasons with Kansas.
However, McMillan's blockbuster move came on Thursday night after former five-star prospect and Indiana forward Mackenzie Mgbako announced his commitment to Texas A&M. This was immediately followed by reliable reserve guard Josh Holloway becoming the first Samford player to follow his head coach to College Station.
Texas A&M currently has six players on the roster, and according to the Athletics' Tobias Bass, McMillan and his staff will serve as the first hosts for Oklahoma transfer guard Duke Miles. Miles was expected to visit last week but had to reschedule. After landing Mgbako, no player, including 2025 five-star forward and former Duke Signee is out of reach.
Miles is the type of shooter who fits McMillan's high-scoring offense to a tee. He finished his final season with the Sooners, averaging 9.4 points and 2.5 rebounds while shooting an impressive 51% from the field, 43% from 3-point range, and 83% from the free-throw line.
Miles averaged 17 points while shooting over 50% from the field during his 2023 season, so the potential to become a double-digit scorer is there. While Tennessee, USC, and Baylor will also host the Alabama native, getting him to College Station on Monday-Tuesday is a great start.
