With a win, Sunday would prove the NFL truly doesn't make sense when a backup quarterback takes over as the starter in a must-have outing.
That's what Davis Mills hopes to accomplish this week at NRG Stadium against an AFC South rival.
The Texans will battle the Jacksonville Jaguars to close out a three-game homestand in Week 11, where a loss could be the nail in the coffin on what feels like a lost season up to this point. As for a win? It saves the season for another week before a trip to Nashville appears on the docket. Ian Eagle will be on the call for CBS as the play-by-play announcer, while former Texans defensive end and three-time Defensive Player of the Year honoree J.J. Watt will serve as the color analyst. Evan Washburn will conduct interviews on the sidelines.
The Texans are coming off a struggling 18-15 loss against the Denver Broncos, where Will Lutz's game-winning 23-yard kick sealed the comeback for the AFC West franchise. C.J. Stroud left the game with a concussion in the second quarter after trying to pick up a first down and didn't return. Meanwhile, Bo Nix never found an offensive spark, but his 26-yard scramble in the closing minutes was enough to keep the drive alive and send Denver out of Houston with a three-point win and 7-2 record.
Meanwhile, the Jaguars are coming off a 30-29 overtime victory over the Las Vegas Raiders. Trevor Lawrence once again struggled to find any offensive success, but his late 1-yard touchdown run with just over four minutes remaining in overtime was enough to give Jacksonville a 1-point win. Geno Smith tried to seal a win on a two-point conversion with 16 seconds remaining, but the pass was short.
With Stroud sidelined, the Texans turn back to their former starter in Mills, who is 2-1 against the Jaguars all-time since joining the franchise in 2021. Sunday also marks Mills' first start since the Week 18 finale in 2022, which netted the Texans the No. 2 overall pick and eventually the 2023 Offensive Rookie of the Year.

The Texans and Jaguars will air live on CBS at noon. Ian Eagle will be on the call for CBS as the play-by-play announcer, while former Texans defensive end and three-time Defensive Player of the Year honoree J.J. Watt will serve as the color analyst. Evan Washburn will conduct interviews on the sidelines.
Kickoff for the Texans' fifth home outing against DeMeco Ryans' former team is scheduled for Noon CT, as the two familiar foes gather at NRG Stadium for the showdown. This will be a battle between two AFC South opponents who, at one point, were considered the bottom-dwellers of the AFC.
